CARLISLE, Pa. - Kristen Brady and Megan Shelley combined for 45 points to lead Dickinson past Gettysburg 80-69 in Centennial Conference (CC) action on Saturday.
Brady, playing in her last collegiate game, recorded a double-double with 24 points -including 8-for-10 from the free throw line and added 12 rebounds. Shelley added 21 points while Alexis Falvello chipped in 18 points in the winning effort.
Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) led four Bullets (11-14, 6-8 CC) in double figures with 21 points, including 16 second-half points. The sophomore went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line and hit three buckets from the bonus sphere in the game. Bear surpasses Carrie Kulp (644, 1996-2000) for 15th on the program's all-time scoring list with 652.
Elizabeth Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's School) recorded her third straight double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Jay Hodge (Silver Spring, MD/St. Vincent Palotti) added 13 points and five rebounds off the bench while Emily Falk (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) chipped in 10 points for Gettysburg.
Dickinson grabbed the lead early in the contest and was able to find an answer each time the Bullets tried to comeback. In the first half, Red Devils (10-15, 3-11 CC) grabbed a nine-point advantage, but Gettysburg came back to cut the deficit to four. Dickinson, however, took the momentum from the end of the first half into the second half to take a 16-point lead and survived a furious comeback attempt from the Bullets.
After Gettysburg cut the lead to four on an 8-2 run on eight points from Falk, the Red Devils scored three straight points to end the first half and came out of the locker room in the second half to go on a 12-5 in the first eight minutes of the half to take a double-digit lead.
Christine Giordano made the front end of two free throws for Dickinson and Shelley hit a jumper to go into halftime with a 38-33 lead. Brady hit back to back free throws to start the second half and give the Red Devils a 42-33 lead with 18:23 remaining in the game.
Hodge hit a free throw before Falvello scored the next five Dickinson points with two jumpers and a free throw. Bear hit the first field goal for the Bullets in the second half with a jumper to cut the deficit 47-36 with 15:56 remaining in the game.
Falk then hit a free throw and then Trica Zalewski sank a jumper for the Red Devils. Adrienne Simmons (Douglasville, PA/Daniel Boone) and Jennifer Reitmeyer traded a made free throw to maintain a 12-point advantage at 50-38 with 13:02 remaining.
Dickinson pushed the lead to 16 with 7:07 left in the game, but Gettysburg tried to overcome the deficit with a 13-1 run over the next five minutes keyed by four points apiece from Bear, Hodge and Ross, but the Bullets could get no closer as the Red Devils ended the game on a 11-4 run.
In the first half, Gettysburg jumped out to a 4-0 lead on buckets from Ross and Jen Nolan (Germantown, MD/Seneca Valley), but after Dickinson scored the next five points and Simmons regained the lead for the Bullets at 6-5 with 16:46 left in the half, the Bullets could no retake the lead in the game.
