GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Ric Bremer (Ridgefield, CT/John Jay [NY]) tied a career high with six goals while Jake Van Nostrand (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) added a career-best four goals as second-ranked Gettysburg opened the 2002 season with an 18-8 victory over Messiah in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Wednesday.

Gettysburg (1-0) opened the offensive attack just 11 seconds into the first quarter after senior John Czerapowicz (Wayland, MA/Wayland) scored directly off the face-off to give the Bullets an early 1-0 lead.

Bremer put back the rebound of a Rich Sharp (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough Regional) shot to make it 2-0 with 13:24 remaining in the opening quarter.

Following a Messiah timeout, Van Nostrand curled around the right post to bury his first goal of the day at 12:12 and, less than a minute later, Pete Milliman (Rochester, NY/Brighton) made it 4-0 with a man-up goal.

Purkat found Bremer on the left wing for Gettysburg's fifth goal with 10:48 left in the first.
