FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - Megan Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton) scored six times and added an assist to help No. 11 Gettysburg past No. 6 Mary Washington 11-7 in the season opener for both teams on Thursday.

Becky Bucha (Waccabuc, NY/John Jay) chipped in two goals and an assist in the winning effort.

Pam Kramer led the Eagles with three goals in the losing effort, while Kami McNinch added a goal and two assists.

The Bullets (1-0) jumped out to 4-1 lead and never looked back to come away with their first win of the season. Murphy scored the first goal of the game 53 seconds into the contest.

Mary Washington (0-1) responded to tie the game when Brianna Gervat scored from a McNinch assist with 26:36 remaining the first half.

Gettysburg then scored the next three goals to gain a 4-1 advantage. Bucha scored unassisted with 23:45 left in the half. Murphy slapped in the next two goals for the Bullets off assists from Casey Costello (Tiburon, CA/Santa Cantalina School) and Bucha.

McNinch ended the Gettysburg string of three straight goals with an unassisted goal with 13:31 left in the first, but the Bullets answered back seconds later when Anna Haugen (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) scored her lone goal of the game from a Murphy assist.

Kramer scored unassisted to cut the deficit to 5-3 with 12:24 remaining. Gettysburg and the Eagles each went on a two-goal run with the Bullets getting unassisted goals from Bucha and Murphy, while Mary Washington scored goals from Erica Larson and Kramer. Gettysburg went into halftime with a 7-5 lead.

The Bullets came out the break to score the three out of the next four goals to cruise to the 11-7 victory. Murphy led the Bullets in that stretch with two goals with Costello adding the other goal.

Amy Farrell (Ambler, PA/Upper Dublin) recorded the final goal for Gettysburg.

The Bullets return to action one week from today when they travel to Messiah. Game time is 4 p.m.
