WESTMINSTER, Md. - Toby McIntire recorded 10 points and nine rebounds to lead Western Maryland past Gettysburg 69-40 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Saturday.
Jen Piccolomini, Stephanie McPhearson and Dawn Fletcher each chipped in eight points apiece in the winning effort.
Elizabeth Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's School) recorded a double-double, while scoring all 14 of her points in the second half and pulling down a game-high 13 rebounds.
Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) chipped in eight points, all of which came in the first nine minutes of the game.
The Green Terror (15-6, 8-4) jumped out to an early lead before the Bullets came back to pull within one, but in the end Gettysburg was no match for Western Maryland as the Green Terror cruised to their 15th victory of the year and keep their hopes alive for a CC playoff berth.
Western Maryland went on a 7-0 run with 10 minutes left in the first half and closed out the half on a 22-7 to seal the victory.
After Bear brought the Bullets (11-13, 6-7) to within one by hitting consecutive 3-pointers to make the score 14-13, Piccolomini answered for the Green Terror with five straight points off a trey and a layup. Erin White hit a jumper to cap the 7-0 run with 8:07 left in the half.
Adrienne Simmons (Douglasville, PA/Daniel Boone) silenced Western Maryland momentarily with a 3-pointer to cut the deficit to 23-16, but Piccolomini answered right back for the Green Terror with a jumper.
Kerriann Van Nostrand (Bridgewater, NJ/Bridgewater-Raritan Reg.) hit 1 of 2 free throws to make the score 23-17 with 6:30 remaining until halftime.
Western Maryland responded with another 7-0 over the next two minutes to give the Green Terror a double-digit lead at 30-17 with 4:20 left in the half.
Kelly Cramp, who chipped in seven points, hit a trey and Brooke Brenneman hit two free throws before McPhearson capped the run with a layup.
Emily Falk (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) ended the run with a 3-pointer, but Western Maryland ended the final 3:42 of the half with a 9-0 run to go into the locker room with a 39-20 lead.
Dawn Fletcher started the run with a jumper and then Piccolomini hit her second trey of the game. Fletcher hit a layup before TeAndra Smith ended the half with two free throws.
The Green Terror dominated the second half much like the first, outscoring Gettysburg 30-20. Ross, who was held scoreless in the first half, scored 14 of the Bullets 20-second half points with Simmons, Van Nostrand and Cat Arnold (Huntington, VT/Mt. Mansfield Union) each adding a bucket a piece.
The Bulllets will travel to Dickinson on Saturday in the season finale for both teams. Tip-off is 2 p.m.
