DISNEY, Fla. - Michelle Schlegel
scored the game-winning goal with six seconds remaining
in overtime to lead No. 14 Ithaca past No. 6 Gettysburg in
non-conference women's lacrosse action on Wednesday.
Schlegel led the Bombers (2-0) with five
goals in the game. Lauren Smith added two goals,
while Mariah Casserly, Erica Granzin,
and Jessica Welch chipped in a goal apiece.
Meredith Achilles, Calyn Acebes
and Jennifer Bryant each added an assist in
the winning effort.
Anna Haugen (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage)
recorded a team-high three goals for the Bullets (2-1). Megan
Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton), the current Centennial
Conference Player of the Week, added two goals and an assist.
Becky Bucha (Waccabuc, NY/John Jay) netted
one goal and three assists, while Casey Costello (Tiburon,
CA/Santa Cantalina School) and Amy Farrell (Ambler,
PA/Upper Dublin) each notched a goal apiece.
After Gettysburg had a goal called back with
23 seconds remaining in the regulation that would have given
the Bullets the victory, Schlegel found the back of the net
5:54 into the overtime period.
Gettysburg grabbed the lead three times in
the contest, including a 7-6 lead with 11:53 remaining in
the game, but the Bombers came back to tie the game and force
overtime. Ithaca held a 5-4 advantage at halftime.
The team returns to action against Denison
on Thursday. The Big Red are 0-1 after a season-opening 13-6
loss to the Bombers in Disney, Fla. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
