No. 2 Gettysburg defeats Drew 15-2 in non-conference action

MADISON, N.J. - Jake Van Nostrand (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) set a career-high with six goals while Ric Bremer (Ridgefield, CT/John Jay [NY]) added three goals as second-ranked Gettysburg defeated Drew 15-2 in non-conference men's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Eric Siegel scored the Rangers' only two goals of the game.

The Bullets (2-0) took a quick 2-0 lead on a direct shot by Bremer at 10:38 followed by a breakaway goal from Pete Milliman (Rochester, NY/Bringhton) with 9:02 remaining in the opening quarter.

Drew (0-1) got on the board with Siegel's first goal of the day at the 8:22 mark of the quarter to make it 2-1.

Van Nostrand pushed Gettysburg's lead to 5-1 with three consecutive goals to end the first quarter.

The Bullets opened the second quarter with four straight goals. Van Nostrand took a pass from Vinny Merlino (Rye, NY/Rye), faked high and scored low for his fourth goal of the game at the 10:50 mark. Kevin Smith (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh School), Van Nostrand and Bremer each posted a goal early in the second quarter to extend Gettysburg's lead to 9-1.

The Rangers scored their final goal when Nate Matsui found Siegel to make it 9-2 with 5:53 remaining.

The Bullets found the back of the net three more times to make it 12-2 heading into the break.

The third quarter remained scoreless until Milliman found Bremer for Gettysburg's only goal of the quarter for a 13-2 lead at 4:28.

In the final period, the Bullets were held scoreless until William Neville (Duxbury, MA/Duxbury) assisted Sean McTernan (Cortlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) at 5:08. Carl Reinke (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) scored his first collegiate goal and Gettysburg's final goal of the game at 2:23.

Tim McGinnis (Ellicot City, MD/Loyola-Blakefield) collected eight saves on the day for the Bullets while Jeremy Bank posted 11 saves for Drew.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday at No. 5 Washington & Lee. The Generals are 2-1 on the season after losing to No. 10 Washington (MD) 9-8 on Saturday. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
