GRANTHAM, Pa. - Megan Murphy (Wilton,
CT/Wilton) scored four times to help No. 8 Gettysburg
come from behind to defeat Messiah 16-6 in non-conference
women's lacrosse action on Thursday.
Candace Fisch (New Canaan, CT/Lawrenceville
School [NJ]) recorded two goals and two assists while
Casey Costello (Tiburon, CA/Santa Cantalina School)
and Amy Farrell (Ambler, PA/Upper Dublin) each
added two goals and an assist in the winning effort. Katie
Lowe (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) also chipped in
with her first two collegiate goals.
Erin Bluey and Heather
Greer led the Falcons (0-3) with two goals and one
assists apiece. Jenn Sapp and Elizabeth
Schatz also netted goals in the losing effort.
The Bullets (2-0) scored 10 unanswered goals
to overcome a 4-2 first-half deficit for their second victory
of the year.
After Messiah took a 4-2 advantage at the
22:00 mark with three straight goals, Gettysburg tied the
game with two goals to end the first half. Farrell scored
unassisted before Becky Bucha (Waccabuc, NY/John Jay)
tied the game off an assist from Kathryn Grassel
(Dix Hills, NY/Half Hollow Hills East) with 1:44 left
before the break.
The Bullets took over the game in the second
half, outscoring the Falcons 12-2, including the first eight
goals of the half.
Murphy, who led the team with six goals in
the season-opening victory over Mary Washington, scored the
eventual game-winning goal 1:03 into the second half. The
junior then netted a goal off a Bucha assist at the 36:56
mark.
Six different players scored over the next
11 minutes, 33 seconds to give the Bullets a 12-4 advantage
before Messiah ended the run with a Bluey goal from a Greer
assist at 49:28.
Liz Borucki (Medford, NJ/Shawnee)
recorded eight saves for the Bullets, while Rachel Barr
made a game-high 12 stops for the Falcons.
With a goal and two assists on the afternoon,
Bucha moved into fourth place on the program's all-time points
list with 187, surpassing Amanda Corroon (185
from 1983-86).
Freshman Quinn Dougherty (Wading River,
NY/Shoreham-Wading River) notched her first collegiate
points in the game with two assists.
Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday
when they face No. 14 Ithaca in Disney, Fla. Game time is
11 a.m.
