Bremer, Milliman lead newly No. 1 Gettysburg over Dickinson, 18-3; Bullets clinch top seed in CC playoffs

Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Ric Bremer (Ridgefield, CT/John Jay [NY]) and Pete Milliman (Rochester, NY/Brighton) combined for seven goals and seven assists to help top-ranked Gettysburg defeat Dickinson 18-3 and clinch the top seed in next week's Centennnial Conference (CC) men's lacrosse playoffs.

The Bullets (11-1, 5-0 CC) will host the conference semifinals on Friday, Apr. 26 and the CC championship game on Sunday, Apr. 28. Gettysburg also hosted the inaugural conference playoffs in 2001 en route to its fourth consecutive CC title and a berth in the NCAA championship game.

After being held scoreless for the first time all season in a 12-8 win over Salisbury on Saturday, Bremer erupted for five goals and two assists to match his career high for points in a single game (7). In addition, the senior attackman moved past Neill Mitchell (128 career goals from 1980-83) and into fourth place on the program's all-time goal-scoring list (129).

Milliman scored twice and dished out a career high-tying five assists in the win, jumping from sixth to third on the program's all-time points list (203) and becoming the fourth player in program history to surpass the 200-point mark.

Sean McTernan (Cordlandt Manor, NY/Hendrick Hudson) added his first collegiate hat trick to key the Bullets' 33rd consecutive regular-season CC victory.

Reigning CC Player of the Week Tim McGinnis (Ellicott City, MD/Loyola-Blakefield) needed only three of his four saves to keep the Red Devils (5-8, 2-4 CC) off the scoreboard after halftime.

Jack Miner, Dan Murray and Jeremy Angell scored goals for Dickinson while goalie Sean McGowan recorded 13 saves in the loss.

Despite the lopsided final margin, the Red Devils stayed close into the second quarter.

McTernan opened the scoring off a behind-the-net feed from Bremer and Kevin Smith (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh) set up Milliman on the left doorstep in transition to make it 2-0 with 9:29 remaining in the opening quarter.

John O'Bannon (Marshall, VA/Highland School) ripped home his sixth goal of the season for a three-goal lead at 7:41, but Dickinson crawled back into the game with the next two markers.

Miner picked up a loose ball in front of the crease and fired a shot past McGinnis to put the Red Devils on the board with 5:25 left in the quarter. Murray then finished a solo run at 1:04 and McGowan made a point-blank save on Bremer with 24 ticks remaining to keep the score at 3-2 after one quarter.

The teams traded turnovers to open the period before McTernan scored again to touch off a 5-0 run that helped Gettysburg take command.

Twelve seconds later, Peter Politi (Wilton, CT/Wilton) set up Bremer directly off a John Czerapowicz (Wayland, MA/Wayland) face-off win to make it 5-2 and McTernan capped his first hat trick with 6:18 left before halftime for a four-goal lead.

The Bullets used the Milliman-to-Bremer connection twice in a span of 2 minutes, 53 seconds to cap the outburst, the latter goal coming after Bremer was stopped on the doorstep, fired wide and hit the post in succession on his three previous scoring attempts.

Angell ended the Red Devils' 13-minute, 52-second drought by finishing a one-timer from Parker Sims with 2:12 left in the half, but Dickinson wouldn't score again the rest of the way.

Jake Van Nostrand (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) netted his two goals in a span of 52 seconds – both set up by Milliman – to start Gettysburg's 8-0 third quarter and 10-0 second half.

Bullet sophomore Jay Mayes (Pikesville, MD/McDonogh) and freshman Donald MacLaren (Bryn Mawr, PA/Radnor) each scored their first collegiate goals in the win.

Gettysburg, which entered the game ranked No. 1 in Division III for the first time this season, outshot Dickinson 54-15 on the afternoon.

The Bullets wrap up their regular season on Saturday at Franklin & Marshall. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
