GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Becky Bucha (Waccabuc,
NY/John Jay) posted season highs with five goals and
seven points to lead 10th-ranked Gettysburg over No. 15 Franklin
& Marshall 18-13 in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s
lacrosse action on Wednesday.
Bucha, who moved into sole possession
of third placeon the program’s all-time goal-scoring list
with the performance, scored three of her five goals during
a 6-2 run at the end of the half that put the Bullets (7-2,
3-1 CC) ahead to stay.
Julika Blankenship (Crumpton, MD/Kent
County) also had a big day in the win, tying a career
high with four goals while adding one assist to help Gettysburg
post its fifth straight win over the Diplomats (5-4, 2-1 CC).
Megan Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton)
and Amy Farrell (Ambler, PA/Upper Dublin) each
added three goals and one assist in the win.
Alexis O’Meara and Lauren
Paul paced F&M with four goals and one assist
apiece.
With each team scoring on five of its
first six shots, the game was tied 5-5 with fewer than 10
minutes gone in the first half.
After a rare scoreless stretch of nearly
four minutes, Bucha scored goals one minute apart to put the
Bullets ahead to stay at 7-5.
Murphy and Farrell finished free-position
opportunities just 2 minutes, 17 seconds apart to make it
9-6 and Blankenship completed her third hat trick of the season
at 22:24 for a four-goal lead.
O’Meara’s third goal of the game pulled
the Diplomats within 10-7, but Bucha netted an unassisted
marker with 23 seconds left in the half for an 11-7 lead at
the break.
Behind two goals from Murphy and a goal
and two assists from Bucha, Gettysburg pushed the lead to
16-9 by scoring five of the first seven goals of the second
half.
F&M rattled off three goals in a
span of 6 minutes, 14 seconds to pull within 16-12, but would
get no closer in the game’s final seven minutes.
Anna Haugen (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage)
and Blankenship scored on Gettysburg’s first two shots for
a quick 2-0 lead in the opening 82 seconds, but two goals
and an assist from Paul in a span of 2:06 put the Diplomats
ahead 3-2.
Blankenship and Bucha scored 32 seconds
apart to put the Bullets back on top, but two goals from O’Meara
tied the game at 5 with 20:28 left in the half.
Liz Borucki (Medford, NJ/Shawnee)
made seven saves in the win. In addition to their scoring
punch, Murphy and Farrell combined for 10 ground balls and
seven draw controls.
With her five-goal outing, Bucha moved
into sole possession of third place on the program’s all-time
list with 153 career goals, breaking a tie with former teammate
Amy Stambaugh (148 from 1997-2000).
Danielle Jones and Allison
O’Meara each added two goals for F&M.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday
