Box Score
CHESTERTOWN, Md. – Becky Bucha (Waccabuc,
NY/John Jay) scored three goals and Liz Borucki
(Medford, NJ/Shawnee) made a season-high 14 saves
to lead 10th-ranked Gettysburg over Washington 12-2 in Centennial
Conference (CC) women’s lacrosse action on Saturday.
The Bullet defense held the Shorewomen
to just 17 shots on the day while allowing two goals or fewer
in a game for the first time since a 20-0 shutout of Regis
on Mar. 14, 2000.
Megan Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton)
chipped in with two goals and one assist as Gettysburg (8-2,
4-1 CC) handed Washington (5-4, 4-1 CC) its first conference
loss of the season. Amy Farrell (Ambler, PA/Upper Dublin),
Anna Haugen (Bethpage, NY/Bethpage) and Erin
Pate (Baldwin, NY/Baldwin) all scored twice in the
win.
Tracy Smet and Janet
Studdiford were the lone Shorewomen to sneak a shot
past Borucki on the afternoon. Goalie Mandy Higdon
recorded 12 saves in the loss.
Smet’s goal opened the scoring just 1:17
into the game, but the Bullets answered with five straight
goals to take charge.
Haugen knotted the contest with an unassisted
marker at 6:01 and Bucha followed with her first goal of the
game to put Gettysburg ahead to stay.
Murphy scored 1 minute, 19 seconds later
for a 3-1 lead and Pate made it a three-goal advantage with
her first collegiate goal just 32 seconds after that.
Haugen capped the 5-0 run with her second
goal of the game at 16:06. Studdiford pulled Washington within
5-2 on an unassisted goal with 9:27 left in the half, but
the Shorewomen wouldn’t score again the rest of the way and
Farrell converted a free-position opportunity at 26:39 to
restore the four-goal cushion heading into halftime.
Bucha set up Murphy 67 seconds into the
second half, then scored twice in a span of 46 seconds to
make it 9-2 with 21:08 remaining.
Kate Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton),
Pate and Katie Coulson (Devon, PA/Shipley School)
all found the net in the game’s last 13 minutes to set the
final margin.
Borucki’s 14 saves topped her previous
season high of 13, set against both Ithaca and Swarthmore.
With her four-point outing, Bucha climbed
within 10 points of second place on the program’s all-time
points list. The senior has 223 career points, 10 shy of Pam
Williams (233 from 1985-88).
Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday
at Dickinson. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
