Waverly, Iowa – Sophomore Jessica Cortese (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) collected a team-high 24 kills and posted 13 digs in two matches as Gettysburg fell to Augustana (3-0) and St. Mary's (Minn.) (3-0) after one day at the Wartburg Invitational in Iowa on Friday.

In the first match, the Bullets saw their four-game winning streak snapped as Gettysburg (5-7) fell to the Vikings (6-1) 30-20, 30-27 and 30-25 before being downed by the Cardinals (7-4) 30-24, 30-18 and 30-19 in match two.

Cortese and Lauren Boyd (Millersville, MD/Severna Park) led the Bullets in the straight set loss to Augustana. Cortese knocked down a team-high 11 kills and 11 digs while Boyd dished out 23 assists.

In the second match, the duo of Kristan Rouzer and Ashley Dingels led the way for St. Mary's, tallying 20 kills along with Dingels'. 588 hitting percentage.

Boyd dished out 21 assists while Cortese tallied a team-high 13 kills against the Cardinals as Gettysburg finished 0-2 on the day.

Sophomore Nicole Barr (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) posted 13 kills in two matches while Erica Rau (Oakland Park, FL/Pine Crest) collected nine kills and Diana McNamee (King of Prussia, PA/Villa Maria Academy) tallied 16 digs and two service aces.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday against Wartburg and Bethel in the second round of the Wartburg Invitational. Action begins at 10 a.m.
