Borcik leads Gettysburg past Eastern, 2-1

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Chris Borcik (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) netted the game-winning goal to lead Gettysburg past Eastern in non-conference men's soccer action on Saturday.

Borcik scored the eventual game-winner for his second goal of the season. James Bealer (Darien, CT/Darien) gave the Bullets (4-0-1) an early lead with his first goal of the season and second of his career. Bealer scored his first collegiate goal in a 9-0 victory against Lycoming on Oct. 4, 2001.

Jon Ruiz scored the lone goal for the Eagles (2-2) in the losing effort.

After battling for 53-scoreless minutes, Gettysburg scored two unanswered goals and stopped a late Eastern threat for their fourth victory of the season.

Borcik scored unassisted in the 83rd minute to give the Bullets a 2-0 advantage.

Ruiz beat the Gettysburg defense and found the back of the twine two minutes later to cut the deficit to 2-1.

Bealer scored the first goal of the game off a corner kick in the 54th minute to break the scoreless tie.

The Eagles missed several scoring opportunities in the contest after the Bullets took the 1-0 lead.

Gettysburg goalkeeper Steve Kopp (Upper Montclair, NJ/Montclair) made his lone save in the contest in the 58th minute off a shot from Kent Metzler.

With the Bullets clinging to a 2-1 advantage, Eastern's last chance to knot the game went wide off the foot of Kyle Shedaker.

John Stot made two stops in the contest for the Eagles.

Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday when they host York (Pa.). Game time is 4:30 p.m.
