Waverly, Iowa – Sophomore Jessica Cortese
(Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) collected a team-high 28
kills in two matches as Gettysburg fell to Wartburg 3-1 and
Bethel (Minn.) 3-0 at the final day of the Wartburg Invitational
on Saturday.
Gettysburg (5-9) fell to Wartburg (7-1) 30-17,
31-29, 26-30 and 30-13 on Saturday, before being downed by
Bethel (7-2) 30-26, 30-24 and 31-29 in its final match.
Margaret Hallahan (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon)
collected 33 digs during the Invitational, including a career-high
19 against the Knights.
In the first match, the Bullets rallied back
from a 2-0 deficit to win game three, but could not hold as
Wartburg captured their third win of the weekend.
Cortese led Gettysburg with a team-high 16
kills while Nicole Barr (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck)
posted 11 kills and 9 digs.
In the final match, Bethel defeated the Bullets
in three games with Gettysburg battling in the last set to
a 31-29 decision. Cortese knocked down 12 kills and Hallahan
collected a team-high 13 digs while Erica Rau (Oakland
Park, Fl/Pine Crest) added seven kills.
Lauren Boyd (Frederick, MD/Gov. Thomas
Johnson) posted 51 assists on the day while Barr tallied
34 kills in four matches.
Gettysburg returns to action on Thursday at
Widener in non-conference action. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
