Bevilacqua leads Gettysburg's crusade over Susquehanna, 3-1

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Mike Bevilacqua (Marshfield, MA/Thayer Acad.) netted two goals to lead 13th-ranked Gettysburg past Susquehanna 3-1 in men's soccer non-conference action on Tuesday.

Bevilacqua, who notched his first two-goal performance in a 2-0 victory at Susquehanna on Sept. 4, 2001, scored the Bullets (6-0-2) first two goals of the game. It is the third time he has turned the two-goal trick.

Caleb Woolever recorded the lone goal for the Crusaders (4-4) while Ryan Murray collected four saves in the losing effort.

Gettysburg jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first half and never looked back to win their six contest of the season.

Bevilacqua gave the Bullets a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute off a penalty kick and then found the twine off a Michael Bruno (Harrisburg, PA/Susquehanna Twp.) assist in the 32nd minute.

Chris Borcik (Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) posted his third goal of the season off a Michael Sarbaugh (Elizabethtown, PA/Elizabethtown) assist in the 87th minute.

Susquehanna answered with a goal 1 minute, 16 seconds later when Woolever knocked in a rebound off a Gettysburg defender to cut the deficit to 3-1.

The Bullets outshot the Crusaders 15-3. Susquehanna missed a scoring opportunity when Steve Kopp (Upper Montclair, NJ/Montclair) made his lone save on the day off the foot of Kenny Pahr in the 82nd minute.

Dennis Hogan shot went wide with a minute remaining for the Crusaders' last scoring threat.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday when the Bullets travel to Muhlenberg. Game time is 7 p.m.
