Ninth-ranked Messiah defeats Gettysburg in final minutes, 1-0

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Mindy Miller netted the game-winner to lead ninth-ranked Messiah past Gettysburg 1-0 in women's soccer non-conference action on Wednesday.

Miller knocked in the rebound in the final three minutes of the game to lead the Falcons (8-0) to their third-straight shutout victory over the Bullets (4-2-2).

Maggie Futato made four saves in the winning effort. Katie Simmons (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) made a career-high seven stops for Gettysburg.

Both squads battled back-and-forth trying to grab a lead, but could not break the scoreless tie until Messiah scored in the final minute to come away with their eighth victory of the season.

Simmons knocked Billie Jo Atkin's 25-yard boot away, but Miller knocked in the rebound with 2 minutes, 35 seconds remaining in the game.

The Bullets were outshot 11-5, but had several scoring opportunities in the contest.

Futato saved two shots from Julia Girman (Cherry Hills, NJ/Cherry Hill) in the 13th and 36th minute, respectively.

Christina DiTucci (East Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) tried to score from 15-yards out, but her shot was high in the 59th minute.

Gettysburg's best scoring threat came in the 71st minute when Futato made a diving stop to her right off a Jenny Line (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) shot.

Molly Bauer's (Camp Hill, PA/Cumberland Valley) shot in the 84th minute was the last scoring opportunity for the Bullets in the game, but Futato came away with the save.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday when Swarthmore comes to town for a Centennial Conference match. Game time is 12 p.m.
