Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Jay Hodge (Silver Spring, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) recorded 17 points and 10 rebounds to help Gettysburg upset No. 23 Lebanon Valley 68-62 in non-conference women's basketball action on Saturday.

Hodge, the current Centennial Conference Player of the Week, has recorded at least 12 points and nine rebounds in her last six games. The senior was 8-for-13 shooting from the floor and 1-of-2 from the free throw line against the Flying Dutchmen.

Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) added 14 points and five rebounds in the winning effort.

Jennifer Northcott led three Lebanon Valley (7-2) players in double figures with 16 points along with eight rebounds. Crystal Gibson scored 15 points while Erin Eaby chipped in 14 points off the bench.

The two squads battled for the advantage in the first 10 minutes of the contest before the Bullets (9-3) grabbed the lead and never looked back for their five-straight victory.

With the score tied at 20 with 6:10 on the clock, Gettysburg closed the first half on an 18-6 run to take a 38-26 halftime lead.

After Northcott tied the game for the fourth time with 6:10 remaining in the first half, the Bullets went on an 8-0 run in a span of 1 minute, 38 seconds to take a 28-20 advantage.

Elizabeth Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's School), who scored nine points in the contest, gave Gettysburg the lead for good with a layup at 5:47.

Hodge converted the front end of two free throws and Jamie Marshall (Pottsville, PA/Nativity B.V.M.) scored from behind the arc before Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation) knocked down a jumper at the 4:09 mark for a 28-20 lead.

Gibson stopped the run with two free throws with 3:32 remaining until intermission. Hodge hit a jumper 12 seconds later before Eaby converted two free throws to bring the Flying Dutchmen within six points with 2:58 left in the half.

Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) knocked down two free throws and Nicole Dixon answered with a basket at 2:22, but Hodge and Ross each drained jumpers to end the half for the Bullets.

Gettysburg took as large as a 15-point lead in the second half, but fueled by six points apiece by Eaby and Stephanie Tighe Lebanon Valley went on a 17-6 surge to cut the deficit to 51-47 with 6:07 remaining.

Bear scored five of the next six points over the next 61 seconds to restore the Bullets' double-digit lead at 57-47 and end the Flying Dutchmen comeback attempt.

Lebanon Valley, who erased a nine-point halftime deficit to defeat Gettysburg 49-48 in last year's meeting, could only manage to grab a 2-0 lead 1:29 into the game and a 14-13 with 11:48 on the clock in this contest.

The Bullets return to action at home on Wednesday against Muhlenberg. Game time is 6 p.m.
