GETTYSBURG, Pa. – David Glaser (West
Chester, PA/Malvern Prep) scored a game-high 14 points
and Erik Fromm (Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Regional)
added nine points in his first collegiate start to lead Gettysburg
past McDaniel 59-42 in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s basketball
action on Wednesday.
Glaser also pulled down five rebounds
and swiped three steals to help the Bullets (8-9, 4-1 CC)
take a half-game lead in the CC West Division while handing
the Green Terror (4-11, 2-3 CC) their sixth consecutive loss
at Bream Gym.
Dami Oloruntoba (Glenn Dale, MD/Eleanor
Roosevelt) chipped in with seven points and matched
a career high with 11 rebounds in the victory.
Chris Rutland scored a
team-high nine points and Greg Hill added seven
points off the bench for McDaniel, which was held to just
14 field goals on the night while committing 19 turnovers.
After watching the Green Terror take
a 7-0 lead in the game’s opening five minutes, the Bullets
shook off a 6-minute, 7-second scoring drought and steadily
took command throughout the rest of the half.
Gettysburg missed three shots and turned
the ball over six times before Kyle Jakobe (Baltimore,
MD/McDonogh/Peddie [NJ]) knocked down a jumper with
13:53 left in the half to get the Bullets on the scoreboard,
igniting a 17-2 run over the next seven-plus minutes.
Glaser and Ryan Page (Silver Spring,
MD/St. John’s College [DC]) followed with 3-pointers
to give Gettysburg its first lead at 8-7. Rutland put McDaniel
ahead for the final time with a pair of free throws, but Reggie
Davis (Longwood, FL/Wm. Penn Charter [PA]) drained
another trey to put the Bullets ahead to stay at 11-9.
A pair of jumpers from Fromm sandwiched
around a Davis layup built the lead to 17-9 before Bryant
Dull snapped a five-minute Green Terror scoring drought
with a 3-pointer.
McDaniel stayed within five at 19-14
on two more Rutland free throws, but Gettysburg scored the
next 10 points to take a double-digit lead it would not relinquish
the rest of the night.
Doug Loveland (Oceanport, NJ/Christian
Brothers Acad.) and Oloruntoba started the run with
a pair of layups, before Todd Brady (Hancock, NH/ConVal)
and Glaser connected from downtown to make it 29-14 with 2:07
left in the half. Glaser pushed the advantage to 35-15 with
a put-back in the final 30 seconds before halftime.
The Bullets shot 58 percent from the
floor in the first half, including a 5-for-10 showing from
3-point range to overcome 12 of their 21 turnovers.
Justin Harrison (Washington, DC/St.
John’s College) chipped in with seven points for Gettysburg
while Loveland dished out a career-high five assists.
The Bullets return to action on Wednesday,
Jan. 29 at Dickinson. Game time is 8 p.m.
