GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Jay Hodge (Silver
Spring, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) scored 14 points
to lead Gettysburg past Bryn Mawr 79-42 in Centennial Conference
(CC) women's basketball action on Saturday.
Hodge went 6-for-9 shooting from the floor,
2-of-2 from the free-throw line along with four assists and
three steals in 18 minutes.
Jen Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park
Country) added 13 points and five rebounds while Katie
Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation) chipped
in nine points off the bench. All 11 Bullet (11-5, 4-3 CC)
players scored in the game.
Stefanie Fedak led the Owls
(0-15, 0-9 CC) with 11 points and JoAnn Gage
recorded 10 points in the losing effort.
Gettysburg took control from the opening
tip and never looked back, cruising to their ninth-straight
victory against Bryn Mawr.
Fueled by three long-range jumpers, the Bullets
jumped out to an 18-2 lead in the first 5:13 of the contest.
Jamie Marshall (Pottsville, PA/Nativity
B.V.M.) started the scoring with a 3-pointer 14 seconds
into the game.
After Tania Romero scored in
the paint at the 19:16 mark, Gettysburg went on a 15-0 run
over the next 4 minutes, 39 second to take a commanding 18-2
lead.
Hodge started the run with a jumper at the
17:59 mark. After Bengel converted a 3-point play with a layup
and free throw, Emily Falk (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling
Springs) drained a trey to give the Bullets an 11-2
lead with 17:17 left. Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale
Catholic) hit a layup before Falk knocked down her
second 3-pointer of the game with 16:02 remaining.
Hodge, who ignited the run with a jumper,
ended the surge by hitting her second basket of the contest
with 14:47 remaining to give Gettysburg an 18-2 lead.
The Bullets started the second half just
like they started the game, opening the final frame with an
11-2 run in the first 3 minutes, 24 seconds.
Bear started the scoring with a 3-pointer
47 seconds in before Hodge knocked down a jumper at the 18:25
mark.
Deb Charamella, Bryn Mawr's
leading scorer, momentarily halted the surge with basket off
the glass to cut the deficit to 46-19 with 18:00 on the clock.
After Bengel hit a jumper 10 seconds later,
Hodge convert two free throws and Bengel scored in the paint
to give Gettysburg a 52-19 lead with 16:06 left in the contest.
Cat Arnold (Huntington, VT/ Mt. Mansfield
Union) scored a career-high seven points. Adrienne
Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) and Amy
Tarbell (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) each hauled
in a career-high eight boards for the Bullets while adding
four points and seven points, respectively. Kate Greenwood
(Bel Air, MD/Fallston) grabbed seven rebounds in the
win.
Gettysburg returns to the hardwood on Monday
at Albright in non-conference action. Tip-off is 7 p.m.
