Hodge helps Gettysburg tame Albright, 71-62

READING, Pa. - Jay Hodge (Silver Spring, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) scored 19 points and added nine rebounds to lead Gettysburg past Albright 71-62 in non-conference women's basketball action on Monday.

Hodge went 9-for-20 shooting from the floor. Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) also scored 19 points on 4-for-12 shooting from the field, 4-for-7 from behind the arc and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line.

Jen Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country) added 13 points while Emily Falk (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) tallied 11 points in the second half for the Bullets (12-5).

Laura Tangradi led the Lions (1-13) with 18 points on 6-for-12 shooting from, behind the arc. Amy Buzinski added 14 points and 10 boards while Julie Horton chipped in 11 points in the loss.

Gettysburg and Albright battled looking for the upperhand until the Bullets took the lead with 13:10 left in the contest and never looked back for their 12th victory of the season.

After Laura Finnegan gave the Lions a 44-43 lead with 13:31 remaining, Gettysburg went on a 13-4 run to take a 56-48 lead and held on for the win.

Falk gave the Bullets the lead for good with a 3-pointer at the 13:0 mark. After Elizabeth Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's School) hit a jumper, Falk hit the back end of two free throws for a 51-46 lead.

Finnegan and Kim Serfass scored on back-to-back jumpers to cut the lead to 51-48 with 9:35 remaining, but Gettysburg answered with a 5-0 run by Hodge and Falk.

In the first half, the two squads battled back and forth before Gettysburg took a three-point advantage going into the locker room.

After Dougherty tied the game at 29 with a jumper at the 2:10 mark, Bear jacked a 3-pointer to give the Bullets a 32-29 lead with 1:58 remaining in the half.

Fueled by three long-range jumpers by Tangradi, the Lions grabbed a 19-15 lead. Gettysburg, however, answered with a 12-2 run to take a 27-21 lead with 5:57 remaining.

Bengel started the run by converting two free throws before Hodge hit a jumper to knot the game at 19. Bear then hit a trey to give the Bullets a 22-19 lead.

After Maura Buzao knocked down a jumper to cut the deficit to 22-21, Gettysburg rolled off five-straight points.

Hodge started the run with her fifth basket of the half before Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) went coast-to-coast for a layup with 8:42 left. Bengel ended the run, hitting the front end of two free throws.

Keyed by three points apiece from Finnegan and Horton, Albright scored 9 of the next 11 points to tie the contest at 29.

The Bullets return to action on Wednesday at Dickinson. Game time is 6 p.m.
