GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Sophomore Leah Hyde (Yardley, PA/Pennsbury) and junior Jenny Line (Carlisle, PA/Carlise) each scored to lead Gettysburg past No. 24 Elizabethtown 2-0 in non-conference women's soccer action on Wednesday.
The victory marks the first time the home team has won the regular-season meeting since 1997, when the Bullets (6-3) defeated the Blue Jays 1-0 in Gettysburg.
Hyde and Line scored in their second-consecutive match while Liz Feldhusen (Acton, MA/Acton-Boxborough Reg.) and Michele Friedmann (Wyomissing, PA/Wyomissing) tallied their first assists of the season.
After a defensive first half, Gettysburg found the net in the 61st minute and then again in the 84th minute for their second-straight victory and fourth shutout of the season.
Hyde's game-winning shot, which looked like a cross from the far left side, hit the right-side panel off an assist from Feldhusen for a 1-0 lead.
With just six minutes left, Line sealed the victory on her second goal of the season. Friedmann's sliding shot deflected off a defender to Line, who beat Amy Weid with a push pass shot to the left corner from six yards out.
Elizabethtown could only muster two shots on the afternoon, including a direct kick by Dana Moyer that hit the crossbar from 35 yards out with 13 minutes left in the second half.
Katie Simmons (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) came up with the Blue Jays other scoring opportunity on Courtney Phillips' left-footed shot in the 57th minute.
Simmons made one save en route to her fourth shutout of the season while Weid posted three saves for Elizabethtown.
The Bullets return to action on Saturday against Bryn Mawr. Game time is 12 p.m.
