GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Chris Brown
scored the game-winning goal and Steve Read
tallied two assists to lead No. 12 Johns Hopkins past Gettysburg
2-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Wednesday.
The Blue Jays (11-1-1, 4-1 CC) kept their
hopes alive for the top seed in the CC while snapping the
Bullets' (9-3, 4-1 CC) nine-game winning streak and handing
Gettysburg its first conference loss of the season.
Chad Tarabolous tallied his
conference- and team-leading 13th goal while Jeremy
Jacobson added an assist on the afternoon.
Freshman John Ward (Elysburg, PA/Southern
Columbia) made three saves for the Bullets in the
loss.
In a battle between two of the Mid-Atlantic
region's top teams, Johns Hopkins scored two second-half goals
against the blustering wind to win its sixth-straight game
and the fourth in its last five meetings against Gettysburg.
The Blue Jays cracked the Bullet defense,
which has only given up eight goals in 11 games, at the 69:18
mark. Jacobson served the ball into Read, who made a one-touch
pass back to Brown in the midfield. Brown drove a one-touch
shot into the left corner for a 1-0 lead with 20 minutes to
play.
Five minutes later, Tarabolous gave Johns
Hopkins a 2-0 lead, tapping the ball home off a Read header
in the 75th minute.
Gettysburg scoring opportunities came in
the first half on shots from seniors Matt Burns (West
Chester, PA/West Chester East) and Will Hohman
(Landenberg, PA/St. Marks [DE]).
Burns came out of the back and sent his right-footed
shot high in the 17th minute while Hohman took a shot that
sliced wide from 25 yards out with seven minutes left to play.
Both teams are undefeated when scoring the
match's first goal with the Blue Jays 11-0 overall.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday
at Washington. Game time is 1 p.m.
