Bullets drop first Centennial match, 2-1 at Muhlenberg

Box Score

ALLENTOWN, Pa. – Dawn Iberer and Courtney Levine scored first-half goals to lead Muhlenberg past Gettysburg 2-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Saturday.

Iberer found the net just 2 minutes, 18 seconds into the contest as the Mules (10-3-1, 6-1 CC) overcame a 12-4 shot disadvantage to snap the Bullets' six-game winning streak and take control of their own destiny in the conference playoff race.

Jenny Line (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) netted her fourth goal of the season in the 69th minute to pull Gettysburg (10-4, 6-1 CC) within 2-1, but the visitors couldn't find the game-tying tally despite five shots in the final 20 minutes.

Muhlenberg needed fewer than three minutes to take the lead for good. Katie Amari sent a long clear over the Bullet defense and Iberer finished a 1-on-1 opportunity against goalie Katie Simmons (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) to make it 1-0.

Levine knocked home an unassisted goal off the game's only corner kick in the 19th minute to push the Mules' lead to 2-0.

Gettysburg, which allowed only one shot following Levine's goal, finally connected in the 69th minute when Christina DiTucci (E. Rochester, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) sent a left-to-right cross to the far post and Line directed the ball past Muhlenberg keeper Kayla Boisvert. It was the first point of the season for DiTucci, making her first start since an injury on opening day.

The Bullets threatened a minute later when Laurie Goon (Baltimore, MD/Loch Raven) sailed a shot over the Mule net. Boisvert stopped another Goon shot in the 86th minute and Line was blocked on Gettysburg's final shot of the game moments later.

Boisvert finished with two saves on the afternoon. Muhlenberg would host the CC playoffs with wins in its final three conference games against Dickinson, Washington and Ursinus.

The Bullets return to action on Wednesday at home against Franklin & Marshall. Game time is 4 p.m.
