Henshaw lifts Muhlenberg over Gettysburg, 1-0

Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - James Henshaw netted the game-winning goal to lead Muhlenberg past Gettysburg 1-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Saturday.

Henshaw scored off a corner kick in the 69th minute to help the Mules (13-4, 7-0 CC) secure first place and homefield advantage in the CC tournament.

Nick Richardson and Evan Smallwood each tallied an assist while Chris Davis made one save to record the shutout.

Andrew Maynard (Reading, PA/Exeter) and Brendan Cain (Derwood, MD/Bethesda-Chevy Chase) each recorded a team-high four shots for the Bullets (9-6, 4-3 CC).

Despite being outshot 6-5, Muhlenberg scored the only goal they needed to win its third-straight game and capture their seventh conference win.

On the Mules' second consecutive corner of the second half, Richardson sent the ball high and to the far post. Smallwood then headed it toward the middle of the goal and Henshaw was there to knock in the game-winner at the 68:37 mark.

Both teams battled to a scoreless first half, only recording one shot apiece. Gettysburg managed to rattle off five shots in the second half, but unable to find the twine in those attempts.

Facing a 1-0 deficit, the Bullets put the pressure on and took three shots in a five-minute span, looking for the game-tying goal.

Davis made a diving left-handed save on Cain's shot from 30 yards out in the 75th minute, before David Pone (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) sent his shot wide one minute, 15 seconds later.

Ryan Aldridge's (Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck) header went over the crossbar off a direct kick by Will Hohman (Landenberg, PA/St. Marks [DE]) with 11:45 remaining.

Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday at McDaniel. Game time is 3 p.m.
