LANCASTER, Pa. – A double-double by junior Jessica Cortese (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield) led Gettysburg to a 3-1 victory at Franklin & Marshall in Centennial Conference (CC) volleyball action on Wednesday.
Cortese tallied her seventh double-double of the season with 16 kills and 11 digs to help the Bullets (25-5, 9-0 CC) secure the No. 1 seed for the upcoming CC tournament, which will be in Gettysburg on Nov. 8.
Classmate Nicole Barr (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) shared team-best honors in kills, while freshman Steph Vial (Hanover, PA/Delone Catholic) matched Cortese in the dig category. Sophomore Shannan Smith (Milmont Park, PA/Ridley) handed out 54 set assists.
The Bullets spotted the Diplomats (14-11, 7-3 CC) a 1-0 match lead, dropping a 30-23 decision.
Gettysburg fought back to take a 2-1 advantage in the match with 30-18 and 30-22 wins in games two and three, respectively.
Franklin & Marshall tried to force a deciding game for the fourth time in seven meetings, but the Bullets took care of business in the fourth game with a 30-27 victory.
In addition to the double-double, Cortese also added a career-best six block assists, while Hillary Prutzman (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) and Erica Rau (Oakland Park, FL/Pine Crest) added four and three, respectively.
Prutzman also added a career-high 12 kills, and senior Michelle Dorsch (Frederick, MD/Governor Thomas Johnson) contributed two service aces and a team-best 12 digs.
Gettysburg is still waiting a decision to be made on the outcome of the suspended match with Haverford, which will assist in determining the final seedings for next weekend's tournament. Johns Hopkins, F&M, and the Fords will travel to compete with the Bullets and vie for the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.
Gettysburg concludes the regular season at the Carnegie Mellon Tournament this weekend. The Bullets open play at 5:30 p.m. on Friday against Allegheny.
