GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Junior Chris Borcik
(Reisterstown, MD/Franklin) scored two goals and added
an assist to lead Gettysburg over Ursinus 3-1 in Centennial
Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Saturday.
Andrew Maynard (Reading, PA/Exeter)
tallied his second goal of the season while David Pone
(Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) picked up his third assist
of the year to help the Bullets (7-2, 3-0 CC) capture their
seventh-straight victory.
Ryan Aldridge (Colts Neck, NJ/Colts
Neck) and Brendan Cain (Derwood, MD/Bethesda-Chevy
Chase) each tallied their second assist on the season.
Borcik, the current Centennial Conference
(CC) Player of the Week, netted his fourth and fifth goal
of the season and his fifth goal in the last four games.
Tom Hanlin posted the Bears'
(4-7-1, 0-3-1 CC) lone goal while Brian Berkowitz
made four saves on the afternoon.
Maynard scored the eventual-game winning
goal in the 54th minute to help Gettysburg remain undefeated
in conference play.
Borcik had the ball in the middle of the
box, before dishing it out to Maynard on the right. Maynard
took a touch and blasted the ball into the far left corner
for the game-winner.
Exactly two minutes later, Borcik netted
his team-leading fifth goal off a header from Aldridge, who
flicked it off Cain's long throw-in.
The Bullets got on the board first in the
24th minute when Borcik finished the deflection of Pone's
left-footed shot.
Ursinus answered back to knot the game at
one going into half time. A serve in by Marcus Ressler
on a set play was taken by Doug Van Allman and
passed to Hanlin, who shot the ball in the right corner with
5:13 left in the first half.
Dennis Ondrejik gave the Bears' their best
scoring opportunity in the second half, but John Ward
(Elysburg, PA/Southern Columbia) made the save on
his header in the 82nd minute.
Gettysburg outshot Ursinus 14-7 and held
a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
The Bullets to action on Wednesday at Delaware
Valley. Game time is 4 p.m.
