GETTYSBURG, Pa.
It didnt take long for Gettysburg to get back to its winning ways. In fact, all it took
was two days and a trip
to Haverford for a Centennial Conference (CC) field hockey
game. On Saturday, the Bullets bounced right back from a
4-1 home loss to No. 3 Messiah on Thursday to remain perfect
in conference play with a 3-1 victory on the road against
the Fords (5-6/0-3 CC).
The last time Gettysburg (6-3/3-0 CC) was on the road, a 3-1 win at Catholic
on Sept. 16, sophomore Meg
Goddu (Chadds Ford, PA/Unionville) tallied her fifth goal of the season and second game-winning
goal. On Saturday, Goddu tallied
her sixth goal of the season and third game-winner three
and a half minutes into the second half.
Junior Katie
Lowe (Setauket, NY/Ward Melville) netted her fifth
goal of the season five seconds before the first half came
to an end to give Gettysburg a 1-0 lead at the intermission,
and senior Carrie
Brown (Hummelstown, PA/Hershey) scored for the fifth
time this season to round out scoring for the Bullets.
Gettysburg goalie, senior Jessy ONeill (Lower Gwynedd, PA/Gwynedd Mercy Academy), recorded nine saves to keep her record perfect at 5-0.
Amie Roe made 26 stops for Haverford
in the loss.
The second half was played mostly in Haverfords
end with the visitors holding a 20-3 shot advantage in that
half alone. Sophomore Becky Latta (West Chester, PA/Henderson) found Goddu at the 38:25 mark
to give the Bullets a 2-0 lead.
Brown made it 3-0 when she took a pass from junior Kelley Mishler
(Moorestown, NJ/Moorestown) in the 62nd minute.
The Fords tallied the final goal of the game with 53
ticks remaining when Jody
Mayer found Beth
Drybala to avoid the shutout.
Despite outshooting the hosts
15-8 in the first half, the Bullets could not find the back
of the cage until Lowe scored unassisted five seconds before
the intermission.
The Bullets return to action
on the road Tuesday at Franklin & Marshall. Game time
is 4:30
p.m.
