Box Score vs. Ursinus
GETTYSBURG,
Pa. A week after getting her 200th win,
Gettysburg head coach Kim Kelly got numbers 204 and 205
with a pair of Centennial Conference (CC) victories over
visiting Dickinson and Ursinus to extend its current winning
streak to 10, the first time the Bullets have attained such
a streak since they won 11 straight in 1998.
In the first
match, a sweep of the Red Devils (6-11/1-1 CC), the Bullets
(16-5/3-0 CC) were led by junior Nicole Barr (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck)
and sophomore Erica
Rau (Oakland Park, FL/Pine Crest) with eight kills
each, while junior Jessica Cortese (Lancaster, PA/Hempfield)
added seven kills. Sophomore setter Shannan Smith (Milmont
Park, PA/Ridley) added 32 assists, while senior Michelle Dorsch (Frederick, MD/Gov. Thomas
Johnson) added
a team-high seven digs and three service aces.
After spotting
Dickinson the first four points of game one, Gettysburg came back to knot the game at 5-all. After mostly back-and-forth
play, three straight service points by Rau gave the Bullets
a 21-15 advantage, which would eventually be enough to give
the hosts a 30-23 victory.
In game
two, Gettysburg once again spotted the Red Devils a 4-2 lead before
strong serving from freshman Hillary
Prutzman (Bethlehem, PA/Liberty) gave the Bullets a 6-4 advantage that they would not
again relinquish en route to a 30-19 win.
Game three
was all Gettysburg behind seven straight service points early in the match
by Smith to give the Bullets a 13-5 lead. Six more straight
service points by junior Diana
McNamee (King of
Prussia, PA/Villa Maria Academy) gave Gettysburg a 24-12 advantage en route to a 30-15 win and the match.
In the second
match against the Bears (6-12/1-1 CC), the Bullets were
on cruise control in the sweep, winning 30-17, 30-22, 30-17.
Gettysburg was led in the second match by sophomore Joan Nagel (North Wales, PA/North Penn) with nine kills and four aces, while Barr added eight. Smith and sophomore
Margaret Hallahan
(Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) tallied 11 assists apiece. Dorsch added six digs and
four aces, while Steph
Vial (Hanover, PA/Delone
Catholic)
contributed five digs and two aces. Rau and junior Erin
Barkdoll (Dover, PA/Dover) had two block assists
each.
After a
side-out on the first Ursinus serve, Dorsch started game
one right for the Bullets by serving the next five points
to give Gettysburg a 6-0 lead. Leading 23-13, Cortese served
the next five Bullet points to make it a 28-13 game en route
to the 30-17 win.
Game two
started much the same way as game one with Dorsch serving
the first five points to give Gettysburg a 5-0 advantage early. Later in the game, the Bullets
were holding to a 18-13 lead before Nagel opened up some
breathing room with six straight service points to give
the hosts a 24-13 advantage en route to the 30-22 victory
and a 2-0 lead in the match.
The Bears
started game three strong and held a 7-4 lead before defensive
specialist Vial was called upon to serve. She tallied the
next four points to give the Bullets a slim 8-7 lead. Dorsch
broke open a 14-13 game with four more service points to
give Gettysburg an 18-13 lead. Freshman Caitlyn Barr (Annapolis, MD/Broadneck) closed the deal by serving the last four points of a
30-17 win.
Simultaneously
on the other court, Ursinus swept Bryn Mawr (5-10/0-5 CC)
in the opening match of the day, 30-26, 30-23, 30-27 before
the Owls fell to Dickinson in three, 30-22, 30-11, 30-23.
In the match
between Ursinus and Bryn Mawr, game one opened back-and-forth
before the Owls Liz Cherson put together three
straight service points to give her team a 6-3 lead. The
Bears countered immediately, however, when Marie
DiFeliciantonio served seven points in-a-row to
put Ursinus on top, 11-6. The remainder of game one was
evenly played as Ursinus pulled out the 30-26 win.
In game
two, Bryn Mawr once again fought hard early, taking an 8-5
advantage. Four straight service points by Erin
OHara gave the Bears a 14-11 lead that they
would not relinquish en route to the 30-23 victory and 2-0
match lead.
Game three
was back-and-forth until five straight points by Noelle
Bolletino opened up an 18-12 lead for Ursinus. However,
trailing 23-17, the Owls Stephanie
Heslop put together a string of seven service points
to give Bryn Mawr a slim 24-23 advantage. DiFeliciantonio
closed the deal for the Bears, however, serving the last
three points in the 30-27 contest.
Dickinson would not have much trouble with the Owls, though. Five
straight service points by Ashley
Young broke open a 13-12 game one to put the Red
Devils up 18-12 en route to the 30-22 win.
In game
two, Dickinson rolled, helped in part by seven straight service points
by Cara Scaduto
to turn a 14-7 advantage into a 21-7 lead. Karina
Menconi served the last five points to close the
deal on a 30-11 victory before the Red Devils cruised in
game three, 30-23.
The Bullets
return to action next Saturday in a tri-match at Muhlenberg
with Washington. Action begins at 11 a.m.
