GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Freshman Katie Myers (Randallstown, MD/Western Voc. Tech.) netted the game-winning goal with 4:16 left in the first overtime to lead Gettysburg past McDaniel 1-0 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Wednesday.
The Bullets (8-3, 4-0 CC) used two saves from Katie Simmons (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) and a defense that has not allowed a goal in 365 minutes to extend their winning streak to four-straight games.
Samantha Smith and Dawn Fletcher each tallied a team-high two shots while Michelle Mullen made three saves for the Green Terror (9-4, 2-3 CC).
After battling for 95 minutes, Myers found the back of the net at the 95:44 mark to help Gettysburg record its eighth victory of the season and remain perfect in conference play.
Junior Jenny Line (Carlisle, PA/Carlisle) played a through ball to Myers, who flicked the ball over two defenders to get Mullen one-on-one. Myers, in a breakaway situation, tucked her right-footed shot in the left corner of the net for her third goal of the season and first game-winner.
Maggie Cirrito (Garden City, NJ/Garden City) was looking for the golden goal, but her right-footed shot went across the frame and wide with 1:38 gone in the first overtime.
Both teams tallied six shots each in regulation, but missed on key scoring opportunities and forced the overtime.
Although the Bullets took the first two shots of the game, Smith put McDaniel's first shot on goal when she hit the post on a feed from Niki Lepson in the 27th minute.
The Green Terror had another chance to take the lead in the 81st minute when Fletcher's right-footed shot was tipped wide and out by Simmons to give McDaniel its third corner kick in a span of five minutes.
Myers tried to put Gettysburg on the board before the extra time, but Mullen saved her hard right-footed shot in the 50th minute and then intercepted her cross in the 88th minute.
The Bullets return to action on Saturday against Washington. Game time is 1 p.m.
