GETTYSBURG, Pa. -Three different players
scored to lead Gettysburg past Dickinson 3-0 in Centennial
Conference (CC) men's soccer action on Saturday.
With the victory, the Bullets (10-6-1, 5-3-1
CC) secured the No. 4 seed in the CC tournament and will battle
No. 1 seed and host Muhlenberg on Saturday. Johns Hopkins
is the No. 2 seed in the tournament and battles No. 3 McDaniel
in the two-day tournament.
Junior David Pone (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown)
scored the game-winning goal and his sixth goal of the season
while Ryan Aldridge (Colts Neck, NJ/Colts Neck)
and Andrew Maynard (Reading, PA/Exeter) each
tallied a goal on the afternoon.
Gettysburg only needed one minute, 12 seconds
to take the early lead for good. Pone intercepted a pass from
a Red Devils (7-12-1, 2-7 CC) defender and drilled a left-footed
shot past goalie Aaron Stemplewicz.
Stemplewicz made saves on the next three
Bullet shots, before Will Hohman (Landenberg, PA/St.
Marks [DE]) connected with Aldridge for the second
goal of the game at the 28:20 mark.
Aldridge scored his second goal of the season,
after he headed in the corner kick taken by Hohman with just
16:40 gone in the first half.
Dickinson held Gettysburg from taking another
shot in the first half, while rattling off three of its own
that went high and wide.
The Bullets came out in the second half with
the same intensity from the start of the game, outshooting
the Red Devils 9-2.
Maynard gave Gettysburg a 3-0 lead when he
finished a penalty kick awarded at the 49:18 mark of the second
half.
Alfredo Axtmayer gave Dickinson
its best scoring opportunity when he took the first shot on
goal, but John Ward (Elysbury, PA/Southern Columbia)
made the save in the 58th minute.
