Gettysburg battles Dickinson to a 1-all final

Box Score

CARLISLE, Pa. - Freshman Steph Smith (Milford, NY/Cooperstown) netted her first collegiate goal as Gettysburg and Dickinson to a 1-all tie in Centennial Conference (CC) women's soccer action on Saturday.

Smith scored the lone goal for the Bullets (12-4-1, 8-1-1 CC) while Gina Lengling found the twine for the Red Devils (9-6-2, 5-4-1 CC).

Katie Simmons (Altamont, NY/Guilderland) and Kristin Short (Massapequa, NY/St. Anthony's) combined for five saves while Alanna Schechtman made a game-high six saves for Dickinson.

Both teams struck near the end of each half, but would be unable to find the back of the net through two-overtime periods to finish the game at a standstill.

The Bullets got on the board after Smith knocked the ball past Schechtman on a breakaway opportunity with just 3:14 left in the first half for the 1-0 lead.

Playing down a player for the final 10 minutes due to a red card, the Red Devils managed to knot the game at one with four minutes left in the game. Lengling scored at the 85:48 mark off an assist from Alyssa Carlow to send the game into overtime.

Five different Gettysburg players tallied two shots each, while Carlow fired a team-high three shots for Dickinson to help each team post 14 shots on the day.

The Bullets will be the No. 2 seed in the CC playoffs and will battle No. 3 seed Johns Hopkins on Saturday. The host and No. 1 seed Muhlenberg will battle No. 4 Ursinus in the two-day tournament.
