Box Score

ALLENTOWN, Pa.James Henshaw scored two goals to lead Muhlenberg past Gettysburg 3-0 in the Centennial Conference (CC) semifinals on Friday night.

The Mules (16-4) halted the Bullets (10-7-1) quest for a fourth CC title and advance to the CC championship game on Saturday where they will face Johns Hopkins. The Blue Jays defeated McDaniel  3-1 in the other semifinal match.

Scott Clausen also scored for Muhlenberg while Evan Smallwood tallied two assists on the night.

Juniors David Pone (Bordentown, NJ/Bordentown) and Andrew Maynard (Reading, PA/Exeter) each tallied a team-high two shots for Gettysburg.

Muhlenberg came out goal hungry, but waited until the second half to score three unanswered goals to capture its first playoff win.

Henshaw, who scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over the Bullets in the regular season, netted the game-winner in the 67th minute when he tucked a low-driven shot into the left corner past a diving Nick Wells-Bundtzen (Williamstown, MA/Mt. Greylock).

The sophomore struck eight minutes later, after Smallwood chipped the ball over a defender and Henshaw knocked his shot into the upper-right corner for a 2-0 lead.

Clausen increased the Mules’ lead, scoring off Ryan Smallwood’s direct kick that was flicked by Smallwood with just 2:23 left to play in the second half.

Gettysburg brought a physical presence to the field, committing 17 fouls, while Muhlenberg created several scoring opportunities and outshot the Bullets 16-6.

Pone gave Gettysburg its best chance to get on the board late in the second half, but his shot was saved and tipped out of bounds by Muhlenberg goalie Chris Davis.

Davis then stopped Maynard in the final minutes of the game, the only other Bullet shot on goal.

Gettysburg, who ranked as high as fifth in the region, finishes the season 10-7-1.
