NASSAU, The Bahamas – Jen Bengel (Timonium,
MD/Roland Park Country School) posted game highs with
22 points and nine rebounds to lead Gettysburg over Susquehanna
70-55 in the consolation game of the Bahamas Sunshine Shootout
on Monday.
Bengel hit 10 of 21 shots and came up
one rebound shy of her fifth double-double this season as
the Bullets (2-7) snapped their first seven-game losing streak
since 1989. Elizabeth Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew’s
[DE]) added 11 points while Dana Bear (Lansdale,
PA/Lansdale Catholic) scored 10 to move into fifth
place on the program’s all-time scoring list (1,055).
Emily Falk (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling
Springs) scored her first eight points of the season
on 3-of-6 shooting, including a 2-for-4 showing from 3-point
range. Falk missed the season’s first seven games due to illness.
Ang Letcavage scored a
team-high 10 points for the Crusaders (3-5) while Nicole
Nasser added nine points on 3-of-6 3-point shooting.
No fewer than 12 Susquehanna players scored on the afternoon
while 11 played at least 12 minutes. The Crusaders shot just
35 percent from the floor for the game, including 9-for-30
(30 percent) from 3-point range.
Behind 56-percent shooting from the floor
and a 9-for-10 performance from the free-throw line, Gettysburg
built a 40-26 halftime lead and cruised to the victory.
Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown
Visitation) dished out a career-high seven assists
against no turnovers to key the Bullet attack. Ross added
seven rebounds to go along with her 11 points.
Bear moved past Jen Dravis (1,048 points
from 1994-98) on Gettysburg’s all-time scoring list. She trails
Barb Taylor (1,185 from 1982-86) by 130 points for the No.
4 position.
The Bullets return to action on Friday,
Jan. 2, 2004 at home against Ramapo in the opening round of
the Days Inn Tournament. Game time is 8 p.m.
