GETTYSBURG,
Pa. David Glaser (West Chester, PA/Malvern
Prep) posted team highs with 15 points and seven
rebounds to lead Gettysburg past McDaniel 61-53 in Centennial
Conference (CC) mens basketball action on Saturday.
Kyle
Jakobe (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh/Peddie
[NJ]) added
12 points, six rebounds and a game-high five assists as
the Bullets (4-1, 1-0 CC) took the lead for good midway
through the first half and went on to their eight straight
win over the Green Terror (2-4, 1-1 CC). The victory was
also Gettysburgs seventh straight at home in the series.
McDaniels
Alan Hoyt led all scorers with 19 points while
freshman Robert Wills also reached double
figures with 11 points and hauled down a team-high seven
rebounds.
After
struggling offensively in the games early minutes,
the Bullets found their shooting touch to win the programs
fifth consecutive CC opener.
The Green
Terror opened with the games first six points and
held Gettysburg scoreless until Jakobe converted
a layup with 14:10 left in the half, touching off a 20-6 run over the next
eight minutes. Reggie Davis (Longwood, FL/William Penn Charter [PA]) put the Bullets ahead to stay with a 3-point play, scoring
on a driving layup and converting
the free throw to make it 10-9.
Davis assisted on a Glaser layup
and Chris Pombar (Glen Head,
NY/North Shore) drilled a 3-pointer from the left
corner for a 15-9 lead. Wills hit 1 of 2 free throws to
pull McDaniel within 17-12, but Erik Fromm
(Swedesboro, NJ/Kingsway Reg.) converted a 3-point play of his own to give the home squad its largest
lead of the first half at 20-12 with 6:11
remaining.
The Green
Terror used a 9-2 run to pull within 22-21, but layups
from Todd Brady (Hancock, NH/ConVal) and Kyle McGlensey (West Chester, PA/East)
restored Gettysburgs five-point lead.
McDaniel
hung within three in the opening minutes of the second half
before the Bullets took command with a 12-4 run. Fromm
converted a second 3-point play during the stretch before
Glaser knocked down a 3-pointer and Dami Oloruntoba
(Glenn Dale, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) capped the run
with a steal-and-breakaway-dunk combination for a 46-35
lead with 11:03 left.
The Green
Terror kept Gettysburg within range down the stretch, but could get no closer
than seven points until the final minute.
Brady
and Glaser each blocked three shots for the Bullets, who
shot 57 percent from the floor in the first half en route
to a 51-percent performance for the game.
Mike
DiPiero added
eight points, five rebounds and four steals for McDaniel.
Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday at Franklin & Marshall.
