Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Kristy Costa posted her second consecutive double-double with a season-high 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead McDaniel over Gettysburg 74-58 in Centennial Conference (CC) women’s basketball action on Saturday.

Costa, who struck for 20 points and 12 boards in a 62-61 loss to Lebanon Valley on Thursday, went 7-for-13 from the field and 9-for-10 from the free-throw line to give Green Terror head coach Becky Martin her 300th coaching victory. Kelly Cramp added 13 points in the milestone win while Toby McIntire scored 12 points and dished out a game-high seven assists for McDaniel (5-1, 3-0 CC).

Amy Tarbell (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) doubled her career scoring high with a team-best 14 points for the Bullets (1-5, 0-3 CC). The sophomore also added six rebounds, two assists and two steals in 25 minutes off the bench, but couldn’t prevent Gettysburg’s fifth consecutive loss.

Jen Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country School) chipped in with seven points, seven rebounds and a career-high six assists.

Denied in their first attempt to deliver Martin’s 300th win, the Green Terror found success on the second try.

Two of Tarbell’s six free throws gave the Bullets their final lead of the game at 19-18 with 7:55 left in the first half before McDaniel went ahead to stay with a 10-2 run.

McIntire started the go-ahead stretch with a 3-point play on the Green Terror’s next possession and Heather Thompson followed with two free throws. Theresa Hess put back McIntire’s missed 3-point attempt to make it 25-19 and a good trey by Cramp pushed the lead to 28-21 with 4:51 left.

Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation) answered with a 3-pointer of her own, but a 9-3 McDaniel burst pushed the lead to double digits at 37-27 with 53 seconds remaining.

Tarbell knocked down a jumper for the last of her 12 first-half points, but Katy Powell swished a pair of free throws to make it 39-29 in favor of the Green Terror at halftime.

After Jamie Marshall’s (Pottsville, PA/Nativity B.V.M.) 3-pointer pulled Gettysburg within 42-32 at the 18:53 mark, McDaniel never led by more than 12 or fewer than eight until pushing its advantage to 61-46 on a Cramp 3-pointer with 6:59 left.

Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic), who became the Bullets’ seventh 1,000-point scorer on Wednesday, connected on her only 3-pointer of the game to pull the home squad within 65-57 with 2:50 left, but the Green Terror closed the game on a 9-1 run.

Bear and Marshall each finished with nine points while Elizabeth Ross (Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew’s [DE]) scored eight points and pulled down a team-best eight rebounds. Tarbell’s previous single-game scoring high was a seven-point outing against Bryn Mawr last season.

Gettysburg returns to action on Tuesday at Franklin & Marshall. Game time is 7 p.m.
