Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Dami Oloruntoba (Glenn Dale, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt) and David Glaser (West Chester, PA/Malvern Prep) combined for 43 points and 15 rebounds to lead Gettysburg past Swarthmore 71-64 in Centennial Conference (CC) men’s basketball action on Saturday.

Oloruntoba missed only one shot on the afternoon, going 8-for-9 from the floor and 7-for-7 from the free-throw line to finish with 24 points and help the Bullets (10-9, 6-1 CC) move into sole possession of first place in the CC West Division, one game ahead of Franklin & Marshall. The Diplomats (5-2) fell at Washington on Saturday, 96-86.

Glaser added 19 points and a team-high nine rebounds, coming within one board of his fourth double-double of the season. Gettysburg freshman Ryan Page (Silver Spring, MD/St. John’s College [DC]) also enjoyed his second-best collegiate scoring day, drilling three crucial 3-pointers to finish with 14 points, his first double-digit showing in nine games.

David Pearce led three players in double figures with 15 for the Garnet, which fell for the seventh time in its last nine games. Chris Loeffler and Josh Loeffler chipped in with 12 points apiece for Swarthmore (7-12, 3-4 CC).

In a game that featured 10 lead changes, the Bullets used clutch 3-point shooting and an offensive burst from Oloruntoba to prevail down the stretch.

A 3-pointer from Chris Loeffler and a 3-point play converted by Josh Loeffler gave the Garnet its last lead of the game at 44-41 before Gettysburg rallied with 14:43 left.

Glaser hit two free throws and Todd Brady (Hancock, NH/ConVal) drilled a 3-pointer from the corner to put the Bullets ahead for good at 46-44.

Swarthmore misfired three times on its next possession before Reggie Davis (Longwood, FL/William Penn Charter [PA]) drilled a trey of his own to make it 49-44 and force a Garnet timeout.

Davis found Oloruntoba on a backdoor layup to push the lead to seven, but Swarthmore crawled back to within 51-49 on five free throws, the last by Blair Haxel with 8:13 remaining.

Three-pointers from Page and Oloruntoba pushed the lead to 57-51 with 6:17 left. Pearce answered with three consecutive layups to pull the Garnet within 59-57, but Page responded with another three and Oloruntoba erupted for the Bullets’ next six points for a 68-59 lead with 1:59 remaining.

Wheeler Morgan’s 3-pointer with 17 seconds left pulled Swarthmore within six, but Page converted 1 of 2 free throws to seal the win.

Despite 10 turnovers and a quick 7-0 deficit, Swarthmore took a 34-33 lead into the half thanks to a 23-13 rebounding advantage and nine points from Josh Loeffler.

The Garnet trailed 18-12 with 11:53 left in the first half, but used an 11-5 run capped by a 3-pointer from Matt Gustafson to knot the game at 23.

Swarthmore took its first lead at 32-30 on a Chris Loeffler 3-pointer. Gustafson put the Garnet ahead at the break with a jumper at the 1:01 mark.

With the win, Gettysburg edged ahead 9-8 in the all-time series, including an 8-2 mark in CC contests. The Bullets’ 71-point scoring effort was the squad’s highest in the last eight games.

Gettysburg returns to action on Wednesday at Johns Hopkins. Game time is 7 p.m.
