GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Emily Falk (Boiling
Springs, PA/Boiling Springs) led four Gettysburg players
in double figures with 20 points, helping the Bullets defeat
McDaniel 78-70 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball
action on Saturday.
Falk went 6-for-11 shooting from the floor,
3-for-5 from behind the arc and 5-for-6 from the free-throw
line.
Jen Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park
Country), who led Gettysburg (15-8, 7-5 CC) with 19
points in a 77-73 loss to Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday,
tallied her sixth double-double of the season with 17 points
and 12 rebounds. Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic)
added 14 points while Jay Hodge (Silver Spring, MD/St.
Vincent Pallotti) notched her 10th double-double of
the year with 13 points and 17 rebounds.
Kris Brust tallied 15 points
and 11 rebounds to lead the Green Terror. Jen Piccolomini
recorded 14 points while Jacqueline Pundt chipped
in 11 points in the losing effort.
McDaniel (17-5, 8-4 CC), who had the advantage
for only 95 seconds, gave the Bullets a fight. Gettysburg,
however, went ahead 3:20 into the second half and held on
to remain in the hunt for the final CC playoff spot.
After the Green Terror rallied to tie the
game at 38 at the 16:40 mark, the Bullets rolled off nine
straight points to grab a 49-40 lead.
Bengel put Gettysburg ahead to stay on a
layup with 16:21 remaining in the game. Falk and Hodge each
scored in the paint before Bear drilled her fourth trey on
the day with 14:51 left. Bengel ended the surge with a layup
at the 14:00 mark.
Fueled by three points apiece from Brust
and Brooke Weimer, McDaniel cut the deficit
to 49-46 with 12:52 left.
The Bullets then answered to score 9 of the
next 10 points to open a double digit lead at 58-47 with 9:07
remaining.
Falk hit two free throws before Piccolomini
converted 1 of 2 free throws with 10:37 on the clock. After
Bengel knocked down four free throws and Elizabeth Ross
(Chestertown, MD/St. Andrew's School) went 1 of 2
from the charity stripe, Jamie Marshall (Pottsville,
PA/Nativity B.V.M) drained a jumper for a 58-47 advantage.
Once again McDaniel did not falter. Keyed
by four points apiece from Brust and Piccolomini, the Green
Terror rallied to cut the margin to 59-57 with 5:37 left.
The Bullets had an answer. Katie Eiden
(Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Vistiation) converted
1 of 2 free throws at the 4:51 mark before Falk knocked down
a 3-pointer to give Gettysburg a 63-57 advantage and McDaniel
could get no closer.
In the first half, Gettysburg opened up a
15-8 lead with 14:14 left in the half. Falk hit one from behind
the arc and Bear dialed up long distance twice in the span.
Later in the half, McDaniel grabbed a 29-28
advantage with 2:58 remaining until intermission, but the
Bullets scored five of the final six points to go into the
locker room with a 34-32 lead.
