Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Jen Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country) scored a career-high 31 points and hauled in 14 rebounds to lead Gettysburg past Dickinson 91-65 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's basketball action on Saturday.

With the victory, the Bullets (16-9, 8-6 CC) clinched their first playoff spot since 1998 and fourth in the 10-year history of the conference.

Gettysburg will face McDaniel in a CC West Division second-place tie-breaker game on Monday in Westminster. Game time is to be announced. The Green Terror reached the postseason after falling to Washington (Md.) 84-80 in Chestertown on Saturday.

It will be the second time the Bullets and McDaniel will be involved in a play-in game. In 1998, Western Maryland defeated Gettysburg 68-57 to earn the second seed in the West.

Bengel, who tallied 24 points and 11 rebounds in a 77-71 loss to Ursinus on Thursday, went 11-for-18 from the floor, and a perfect 9-for-9 from the free-throw line along with four assists and two steals. It was the first time since the 1995-96 season a player has recorded at least 30 points in a game when Ann Hymes poured in 37 points at Western Maryland.

Emily Falk (Boiling Springs, PA/Boiling Springs), who notched a career-high 26 points the first meeting against the Red Devils (8-17, 4-10 CC), added 13 points in the winning effort. Jay Hodge (Silver Spring, MD/St. Vincent Pallotti) recorded her 11th double-double of the season with 12 points and 13 rebounds in her final home game of her career while Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation) chipped in 10 points. Julie Younes led four Dickinson players in double figures, tallying 15 points and 11 rebounds.

Megan Shelley added 14 points while Tracee Mosch and Christine Giordano posted 11 and 10 points, respectively.

Gettysburg took control from the tip-off and never looked back to complete the season sweep against the Red Devils.

The Bullets scored 20 of the first 28 points in the game to take a commanding 22-6 lead.

Dana Bear (Lansdale, PA/Lansdale Catholic) opened up the scoring with a 3-pointer 20 seconds into the contest. Bengel then hit back-to-back jumpers to give Gettysburg a 7-0 advantage at the 17:55 mark.

After Shelley put Dickinson on the board with 17:25 left, Jamie Marshall (Pottsville, PA/Nativity B.V.M.) connected on her first of three treys to give the Bullets a 10-2 advantage. Falk hit the back end of two free throws before Bengel scored in the paint to give the Bullets a double-digit lead. Younes converted a layup, but Hodge and Bear hit consecutive baskets for a 17-6 advantage with 12:11 remaining.

Amy Tarbell (East Greenwich, RI/East Greenwich) converted a 3-point play and Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) scored on a layup to give Gettysburg a 22-6 lead with 10:55 until intermission.

The Red Devils, who trailed by as many as 20 points in the first half, ended the first half and started the second frame on a 14-3 run to cut the deficit to 42-33 with 18:15 left in the game before the Bengel scored seven unanswered points to restore the double digit advantage at 49-33 in a span of 2 minutes, 45 seconds.
