Box Score
HAVERFORD, Pa. - David Glaser (West
Chester, PA/Malvern Prep) scored 21 of his 23 points
in the decisive second half to lead Gettysburg past Haverford
62-57 in Centennial Conference men's basketball action on
Saturday.
Glaser, held to four points in his previous
three halves, drilled two crucial 3-pointers and went 9-for-10
from the free-throw line to help the Bullets (11-10, 7-2 CC)
bounce back from a 60-36 loss at Johns Hopkins on Wednesday
and stay in first place in the CC West Division.
Ryan Page (Silver Spring, MD/St. John's
College [DC]) added 8 of his 11 points in the second
half, going 6-for-6 from the charity stripe down the stretch
to seal the victory.
Mike Kelly scored a game-high
15 points for the Fords (9-11, 4-5 CC) while Matt Duffy
chipped in with 14.
Playing without leading rebounder Dami
Oloruntoba (Glenn Dale, MD/Eleanor Roosevelt), Gettysburg
gutted out its second road victory of the season behind another
strong defensive showing and Glaser's resurgent second half.
The Bullets never trailed after Glaser scored
on a put-back and 3-pointer to make it 26-25 with 16:47 left.
Six more points from the sophomore center
keyed a 10-5 burst that pushed the lead to 38-32 with 9:52
left. Kelly cut the lead in half with a 3-pointer, but Kyle
Jakobe (Baltimore, MD/McDonogh/Peddie [NJ]) scored
on a cutting layup and Glaser made 1 of 2 free throws to restore
the six-point lead.
Another three from Kelly pulled the Fords
within 41-40, but Jakobe answered with a three of his own
on Gettysburg's next possession, and Page followed with two
free throws and a pull-up jumper to make it 48-41 with 4:41
left.
The Bullets kept Haverford at arms length
down the stretch thanks to an 11-for-12 showing from the free-throw
line in the final 54 seconds. The Fords managed to get within
five points on four occasions in the final minute, but could
get no closer.
After trailing for most of the first half,
Haverford used an 11-2 run in the final 3 minutes, 5 seconds
to take a 23-21 lead into the locker room.
Jeremy Bass started the run
with a jumper following a full timeout and Kelly drilled a
3-pointer to pull the Fords within 19-17. Duffy knotted the
game on a driving layup and Cam Scribner scored
down low to give Haverford its first lead since 9-7.
Brad Billmeier (Pennington, NJ/Hopewell
Valley) converted two free throws to tie the game
at 21, but Bass hit a layup at the buzzer to make it 23-21.
Down 9-5 early, Gettysburg used a 10-0 run
and took advantage of a 7-minute Ford scoring drought to take
a six-point lead.
Todd Brady (Hancock, NH/ConVal)
and Glaser converted layups to tie the game at nine, and Justin
Harrison (Washington, DC/St. John's College) hit 1
of 2 free throws to put the Bullets ahead, 10-9. Reggie
Davis (Longwood, FL/Wm. Penn Charter [PA]) finished
a driving layup and Jakobe drilled a 3-pointer to make it
15-9.
A short jumper by Billmeier and another cutting
layup from Brady gave Gettysburg its biggest lead of the half
at 19-12 before Haverford rallied.
The Bullets return to action on Wednesday
at home against Franklin & Marshall. Game time is 7 p.m.
