COCOA, Fla. - Mike Luteran (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) went 1-for-3 with a run scored, a double and two RBIs to lead Gettysburg past Richard Stockton 6-2 in non-conference baseball action on Saturday. The Bullets then lost to FDU-Madison 3-0 to wrap up the final day of competition at the Cocoa Expo for the squad.
Luteran, who helped Gettysburg (4-4-1) to two victories on Friday, knocked in the game-winning run on a double in the fifth inning against Richard Stockton. The junior added a hit against FDU-Madison in the nightcap.
Dan Armstrong (Downingtown, PA/Downingtown) (2-0) pitched a complete game against the Osprey (0-1), allowing one run on four hits for his second victory of the year.
The Bullets jumped out to a 5-1 lead against Richard Stockton and never looked back for teams' third consecutive victory.
Ryan Zegarski led the Osprey, going 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and an RBI in the losing effort.
After Richard Stockton scored in the fourth on a Dave Daniels' ground out, Gettysburg answered with four runs in the fifth inning and then added a run in the sixth to take a 5-1 advantage.
After Austin Ball (Farmingdale, NY/Hills East) started the rally with a single, Ron Lettieri (Hempstead, NY/South Side) and Nathan Bashaw (Weybridge, England/Tasis England) hit back-to-back singles to plate Ball. Luteran brought Letteri and Bashaw home with a double before Chris Ferris (Scituate, MA/Boston College) ended the surge with a single to score Luteran for a 4-1 lead.
Ball came around to score in the next inning to increase the margin to 5-1.
The Osprey cut the deficit to 5-2 in the sixth. Travis LeFerriere opened the frame with a single and scored on Zegarski's single.
Henry Mullen (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) added an insurance run in the seventh after he singled to start the inning and came around to score on Tobin Whitman's (Lyme Center, NH/Hanover) RBI groundout.
After scoring 31 runs in the last three games, the Bullets were shut out 3-0 by FDU-Madison in the squads' final game in Florida.
Mike Del Vecchio went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs for the Devils in the winning effort.
Ferris tallied two of Gettysburg's six hit in the contest in the loss.
FDU-Madison scored three runs on four hits in the third to end the Bullets three game-winning streak.
Mike Trapani reached on an error and Jim DaSilva singled to start the inning. Both runners came around to score on the triple off the bat of Del Vecchio. Jason Ahmed plated Del Vecchio with an RBI single for a 3-0 advantage.
Gettysburg's best chance to get on the scoreboard came in the fifth inning when Justin Steele (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) and Ferris started the frame with back-to-back singles. Steele advanced to third on a fielder's choice, but Devils' starter Chris Bartz got of the jam on a strikeout and groundout.
The Bullets return to action on Tuesday at York (Pa.) First pitch is 3 p.m.
