No. 24 Johns Hopkins overpowers Gettysburg 13-3 in CC action

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Craig Cetta went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI to lead No. 24 Johns Hopkins past Gettysburg 13-3 in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Tuesday.

Cetta, the current CC Player of the Week, tallied a double and two singles to lead the Blue Jays (12-2, 1-0 CC) to their fourth straight victory against the Bullets (5-7-1, 0-1 CC).

Paul Winterling added a 2-for-4 performance with a home run, two runs scored and two RBIs while Carl Impolito went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBIs in the winning effort.

Henry Mullen (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) led Gettysburg, going 3-for-4 with an RBI while Ron Lettieri (Hempstead, NY/South Side) and Mike Luteran (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) added two hits apiece in the loss.

The Bullets battled the defending CC championships for six innings before Johns Hopkins scored 10 runs in the final three innings to put the game out of reach.

The Blue Jays opened the scoring with a single run in the third and added two runs in both the sixth and seventh to grab a 5-0 advantage.

After Joe Urban led off the second with a double, he came around to score on Paul Long's sacrifice fly to left for the early 1-0 lead.

Ippolito increased the Johns Hopkins margin with an RBI single in the sixth. Tim Casale plated Ippolito on a sacrifice fly. In the next frame, Winterling smacked a two-run home run for his team-leading fifth of the season and a 5-0 advantage.

Gettysburg finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the seventh when Lettieri beat out a grounder at the shortstop to plate Justin Steele (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.).

Johns Hopkins put the game away with eight runs on six hits in the eighth, increasing its lead to 13-1.

The Bullets scored a single run in the bottom of the inning off an RBI double by Mullen.Nathan Bashaw (Weybridge, England/Tasis England) brought in Gettysburg's third run of the afternoon on an RBI single in the ninth.

Jeremy Brown (2-1) pitched five shutout innings, allowing two hits with four strikeouts to pick up his second victory of the year.

Gettysburg returns to action on Friday in Baltimore against the Blue Jays. Game time is 3 p.m.
