GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) and Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Douglassville) each went 3-for-3 in game two as Gettysburg and Elizabethtown split a non-conference softball doubleheader on Thursday.
Simmons tallied her second double of the season and scored three runs while Pareso collected her third win on the mound, allowing four runs and striking out three in five innings worked in the nightcap.
Stef Mastropaolo (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford), current CC Player of the Week, hit her third home run of the year to help the Bullets to a 12-4 game two victory.
Gettysburg (7-3) wasted no time to score in game two, darting out to a 7-0 lead after the first inning. After Simmons doubled and advanced Jenna Pabst (Boonton, Twp., NJ/Mountain Lakes) to third, the Bullets put two runs on the board off Pareso's RBI double to center field.
Mastropaolo then hit a two-run homer for a 4-0 lead. Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visititation [DC]) hit an RBI single to bring in Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves), before Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) and Eiden both scored on wild pitches by Kate Sharkey to end the first inning action.
Gettysburg scored two runs in the second and three more in the third inning to take a commanding 12-2 lead.
With bases loaded in the top of the fifth, Sharkey used a wild pitch to her advantage to reach the plate while Tiffany Inch's single to left field drove in Diana Aria for one more, but Pareso halted the Blue Jays comeback attempt with her final strike out of the game.
Elizabethtown's starting pitcher Michelle Morris only allowed two runs off 10 hits to help the Blue Jays take game one, 3-2.
Both teams were held scoreless for the first three innings until Pilarcik ripped a double to right field to plate Pareso for a 1-0 lead.
Elizabethtown scored all of its runs in the fifth inning. Allison McMullen scored on an error, before Ashley Davenport scored off Balmer's RBI double down the left field line. Balmer scored the game-winning run on a two-out RBI single by Sharkey.
The Bullets had three hits in the bottom of the sixth, but only capitalized on one of those opportunities when with Pilarcik reached the plate from Eiden's single to center field.
Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) was handed her second loss of the season, only giving up two runs on five hits and walking two in seven innings of work.
Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday for a doubleheader at Muhlenberg. Game one begins at 1 p.m.
