Murphy leads sixth-ranked Gettysburg past Swarthmore in CC action, 17-2; Senior becomes fourth in program history with 200 points

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Megan Murphy (Wilton, CT/Wilton) tallied six goals and two assists to lead sixth-ranked Gettysburg past Swarthmore 17-2 in Centennial Conference (CC) women's lacrosse action on Saturday.

Murphy, who scored four markers in the first half, became the fourth player in program history to record 200 points in a career and now stands at 206.

Kathy Delauney (Lutherville, MD/Roland Park Country) recorded two goals and one assist while Jen Bengel (Timonium, MD/Roland Park Country) added a career-high three points on a goal and two assists in the winning effort.

Christina Vu and Jackie Hahn each found the twine for the Garnet's only goals on the afternoon.

Swarthmore (3-3, 0-2 CC) was no match for the Bullets, who went on spurts of six and 10 consecutive goals on the way to victory. With its eighth straight victory, Gettysburg (8-0, 2-0) starts the season with the second-longest winning streak in program history.

Fueled by four points from Murphy, the Bullets jumped out to a 6-0 lead.

Murphy started the scoring with an unassisted goal at the 4:05 mark. Twenty-eight seconds later, Murphy fed Julika Blankenship (Crumpton, MD/Kent County) for a quick 2-0 advantage. Blankenship returned the favor, setting up Murphy's second goal of the day at 8:18.

Delauney found the twine off a Kathryn Grassel (Dix Hills, NY/Hal Hollow Hills East) assist at 8:41. Delauney then feed Jess Hanson (Hunt Valley, MD/Mayvale Prep) at 13:16 before Murphy scored unassisted at the 15:44.

Vu momentarily stopped Gettysburg's run with an unassisted goal 18:10 into the contest, but the Bullets rolled off 10 straight goals to put the game out of reach.

Murphy scored consecutive markers in a span of 41 seconds to increase the margin to 8-1at the 20:11 mark. Ellie Shihadeh (Malvern, PA/Conestoga) found the net off an assist from Ashley Froman (Glen Arm, MD/Loch Raven) with 8:04 remaining in the half to give the Bullets a 9-1 advantage at intermission.

Gettysburg then scored eight of the nine second-half markers, cruising to the win.

Blankenship, Amy Farrell (Ambler, PA/Upper Dauphin) and Jacquie O'Connor (Ridgewood, NJ/Ridgewood) each finished with one goal and one assist, while Grassel, Quinn Dougherty (Wading River, NY/Shoreham-Wading River) and Jenn Kelly (Westbury, NY/Carle Place) each netted a goal in the win.

The Bullets returns to action at No. 15 Franklin & Marshall in CC action. Game time is 4 p.m.
