CARLISLE, Pa. - Stef Mastropaolo (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) went 4-for-7 with two RBIs, two runs scored, one double and one triple to help Gettysburg sweep Dickinson 9-1 and 4-3 in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Thursday.
Jenna Pabst (Boonton, Twp., NJ/Mountain Lakes) added a 4-for-6 performance with two runs scored on the night while Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, one RBI and a double in game one.
Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) allowed six hits, struck out three and walked five in seven innings in game two to remain undefeated on the mound and collect her sixth win of the season.
In game two, the Bullets (13-5, 5-1 CC) scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to erase a one run deficit and hold on for the 4-3 victory.
Margaret Hallahan (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) started the scoring with her first RBI double of the season to knock in Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive) for a 1-0 lead.
The Red Devils (6-14, 0-4 CC) got runners on when Giovanna McClenachan walked and Megan Spears reached on an error in the bottom of the second inning. Alexis Dissinger and Lori Scheetz back-to-back RBI singles for two quick runs, before Dissinger scored on an error to make it 3-1.
Both teams were held scoreless during the next three innings, but Gettysburg stopped the streak when Mastropaolo hit her team leading fourth triple of the season into right field and eventually scored off Hallahan's sacrifice fly to left field to cut the deficit to one.
With two outs in the final inning, Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) singled to centerfield, allowing Pabst and Pareso to score the final two runs of the game and complete the sweep of Dickinson.
Gettysburg scored eight runs in the first three innings and added one more run in the fifth to win game one, 9-1.
Despite two outs, Mastropaolo, Pilarcik, and Gutermuth each cranked out RBI doubles for a quick 4-0 lead after the first inning.
Jen Korth knocked in Julie Becker in the bottom of the first for Dickinson's only run.
The Bullets scored two runs in the second and then extended their lead to 8-1 in the third when Michelle Oravis (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) hit an RBI single to center field to bring home Pilarcik and Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) single to left field to help Eiden cross the plate.
Freshman Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) allowed one run on five hits in four innings, before being relieved by Lauren Bourne (Ogunquit, ME/Wells).
Gettysburg returns to action Saturday for a CC doubleheader against Swarthmore. Game one begins at 1 p.m.
