Gettysburg overpowers Franklin & Marshall, 4-1

LANCASTER, Pa. - Mike Luteran (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) went 3-for-4 to lead Gettysburg past Franklin & Marshall 4-1 in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Thursday.

Luteran smacked his third home run of the year and added two singles to help the Bullets (8-8-2, 3-2-1 CC) end a three-game losing skid against the Diplomats (9-11, 4-5 CC).

Justin Steele (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) added a 2-for-4 performance, including his first home run of the year and first since going deep against Albright on Apr. 29, 2002. Tom Gallione (Demarest, NJ/Northern Valley) (3-2) went the distance, allowing one run on seven hits in the winning effort.

Corey Caruthers led Franklin & Marshall, going 2-for-3 while Dan Weber recorded a hit and a run scored.

The Diplomats took an early advantage before Gettysburg rallied to score the final four runs to take a 4-1 victory.

Chris Ferris (Scituate, MA/Boston College) doubled to lead off the fourth and came around to score on Henry Mullen's (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa) groundout to tie the contest at 1. Steele gave Gettysburg the advantage for good with a solo home run to start the sixth.

The Bullets added insurances runs in the seventh and eighth. Ferris scored on an error in the seventh and Luteran sealed the victory on a round tripper in the eighth.

The Diplomats opened the scoring in the game with a run in the second. Web singled and came around to score on a wild pitch.

Caruthers and Rob Georgiou singled in the fifth, and with one out stole second and third, respectively. Gallione, however, got the next two batters to pop up in the infield and did not allow a hit the rest of he way.

Franklin & Marshall comes to Gettysburg on Friday to conclude the season series. Game time is 3:30 p.m.
