GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) went 3-for-6 with four runs scored and one stolen base while Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) went 2-for-4 with four RBIs, including three in game one to help Gettysburg sweep Swarthmore in a Centennial Conference (CC) doubleheader on Sunday.
Jenna Pabst (Boonton, Twp., NJ/Mountain Lakes) added a 2-for-3 performance with three runs scored in game one while Michelle Oravis (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) went 2-for-3 with two doubles and one run scored in the opener.
Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) improved to 7-0 on the mound, only allowing one hit and striking out two in three innings after relieving freshman starter Cjay Roughgarden(Stormville, NY/Carmel), who gave up three runs and struck out one in four innings of work.
In game two, the Bullets (15-5, 7-1 CC) rallied back from a 3-2 deficit by scoring three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning for a 5-3 game-two win.
The Garnet (3-14, 2-4 CC) took an early 1-0 lead in the first after Mary Mintel tripled to right field and Christina Procacci knocked her in on a fielder's choice.
Pareso tied the game at one when Pilarcik got walked with two outs and bases loaded in the bottom of the first inning.
In the top of the third, Kristie LaSalle singled to center field and scored off Procacci's double to left field. Valerie Marone hit an RBI single to left field to bring in Procacci for a 3-1 lead.
Gale, who reached on a bunt single, advanced two bases on Sara Gutermuth's (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive) single to left field and scored on a wild pitch to pull Gettysburg within one in the bottom of the fourth.
Oravis's RBI single to right field brought in Gale to tie the game and started the comeback in the bottom of the sixth inning. Gutermuth came in for Oravis on second and Margaret Hallahan (Huntingdon, PA/Huntingdon) got walked, before Pabst reached on an error that allowed Gutermuth and Hallahan to cross the plate.
The Bullets held Swarthmore scoreless in the top of the seventh for the 5-3 victory.
Roughgarden fired a six-inning complete game in the opener while allowing two hits, one walk and striking out two to notch her third win of the season as Gettysburg erupted for three runs in the first inning en route to an 8-0 win in game one.
Pabst got walked, advanced to second on Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) sacrifice bunt before she scoring off Stef Mastropaolo (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) hit an RBI single to centerfield in the bottom of the first. Pilarcik ripped a two RBI single to centerfield for a 3-0 advantage.
Pilarcik recorded her third RBI in the third inning when she knocked in Gale on her single to right field to make it 4-0.
The Bullets scored two more runs in the fourth and sixth innings to capture game one, 8-0.
Gettysburg returns to action Tuesday for a CC doubleheader against Franklin & Marshall. Game one begins at 4 p.m.
