Box Score

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Dan Weber drove in the game-winning run to cap off a four-run ninth inning and help Franklin & Marshall come from behind to defeat Gettysburg 8-7 in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Monday.

Weber smacked a double into deep center to score Scott Haft from first for the game-winner. It was Weber's only hit on the afternoon.

Haft led the Diplomats (12-11, 7-5 CC), going 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Mark Rothermel and Corey Caruthers also recorded three hits in the winning effort.

Nathan Bashaw (Weybridge, England/Tasis England) went 3-for-5 with two runs scored for the Bullets (11-10-2, 6-4-1 CC) while Justin Steele (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) added a 1-for-2 performance with three RBIs and a run scored.

Gettysburg jumped out to a four-run advantage before Franklin & Marshall rallied to come away with the victory in the ninth inning and split the season series between the two squads.

With the Bullets clinging to a 7-4 lead, the Diplomats scored four runs in the ninth inning with two outs to grab an 8-7 advantage.

Caruthers singled to start the frame before two groundouts. After Chris Smith plated Caruthers on an RBI infield hit, Gary Kruger drilled a triple to right field that Chris Ferris (Sciuate, MA/Boston College) almost came up with to end the game. Haft singled on a slow roller to third, plating the tying run before Weber gave Franklin & Marshall the lead for good.

In the bottom of the inning, Mike Luteran (Livingston, NJ/Livingston) walked with one out, but Ted Serro recorded the final two outs to end the contest.

After the Diplomats opened the scoring with a run in the first, Gettysburg answered with six runs in the next three innings to take a 6-1 lead.

Steele and Luteran gave the Bullets a 2-1 lead in the first on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly, respectively. Steele and Joe Gossweiler (Florham Park, NY/Hanover Park) each recorded two-run singles to increase the margin in the third.

Rothermel helped Franklin & Marshall chip away at the lead with an RBI single in the fourth before the Diplomats plated two runs on errors in the next frame to cut the deficit to 6-4.
