GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Austin Ball (Farmindale, NY/Hills East) went 4-for-6 with a grand slam to lead Gettysburg past Dickinson 22-19 in Centennial Conference (CC) baseball action on Tuesday.
Ball picked a great time for his first collegiate home run. After the Red Devils (6-13, 1-8) rallied to tie the contest at 10 in the top of the fifth, Ball belted a grand slam to left field to restore the Bullet (12-10-2, 7-4-1 CC) advantage. The sophomore added a career-high five RBIs and four runs scored on the afternoon.

After the Bullets jumped out to an early advantage, the Red Devils rallied to knot the contest in the fifth before Gettysburg tallied 11 runs over the next two inning and held on for the victory.
With the score tied at 10, Chris Ferris (Sciuate, MA/Boston College) touched home on a wild pitch in the fifth to restore the Bullets lead. The squad then loaded the bases on four walks sandwiched in between a double play to set up Ball's round tripper on a full count to open a 15-10 lead.
Joe Gossweiler (Florham Park, NY/Hanover Park) knocked in two more runs in the sixth on a single before Ball plated a run with a single. After Ball and Brendan McDonald (Bennington, VT/Mt. Anthony Union) pulled off a double steal to score another run, Lettieri capped the inning with an RBI single to increase the margin to 22-10.
Fueled by Geoff Neese, the Red Devils answered to score nine runs in the last three innings to close the deficit to 22-19. Neese knocked in two runs in the seventh on a double before starting a four-run rally in the ninth with his seventh home run of the year. Russell Rubin followed up Neese's long ball with a two-run shot, but Lettieri came in and shut the door on Dickinson's comeback attempt.
The Bullets opened up a 10-2 advantage in the first three innings of the game. Justin Steele (Manahawkin, NJ/Southern Reg.) plated the first three runs of the game on a double to left center in the first.
The Red Devils answered with RBI singles from Miles Hunt and Tre Dwinell to cut the margin to 3-2.
Keyed by a two-run double off the bat of Henry Mullen (Massapequa Park, NY/Massapequa), Gettysburg plated five runs in the second. Bashaw and Ferris added RBI singles in the next frame to grab a 10-2 lead.
Dickinson did not falter, knotting the contest with eight runs in the fifth. Simoni and Jeff Fischer ignited the furious comeback with a pair of two-run singles.
The Bullets tallied 20 runs in a game for the first time since defeating Western Maryland 24-5 in 1994. The 19 allowed in the win was the most in program history and also marked the most since giving up 16 against Juniata in 1981 (21-16) and against Franklin & Marshall in 1894 (17-16).
Gettysburg returns to action on Friday at home to complete the season series with the Red Devils. Start time is 3:30 p.m.
