Bullets win seventh straight; Gettysburg sweeps Franklin & Marshall in CC action

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) hit an RBI single to left field to knock in Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]) for the game-winning run in game one as Gettysburg swept Franklin & Marshall in a Centennial Conference (CC) doubleheader on Tuesday.

The Bullets (17-5, 9-1 CC) won the opener 4-3 and captured game two 4-1 for their seventh straight win.

Stef Mastropaolo (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) went 4-for-7 with three runs scored, one double and one RBI while Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) went 4-for-6 with two RBIs and one double on the afternoon.

Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) and Cjay Roughgarden(Stormville, NY/Carmel) each picked up complete-game victories on the day. Kiry allowed three runs off six hits and struck out three in game one while Roughgarden gave up one run and struck out one in the nightcap.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Eiden scored the game-winning run after getting on board with a double and then touching the plate on an RBI single by Pareso.

The Diplomats (7-10, 1-7 CC) scored three runs off three hits in the top of the fifth to knot the game at three. Leah Shams-Molkara and Christina Palladino each scored off of Jenn Fried's double to center field, before she scored on a wild pitch to end the inning.

Gettysburg took a 2-0 lead after the first inning after Gale hit a two RBI double to right field to score Mastropaolo and Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone).

In the bottom of the second, Jenna Pabst (Boonton, Twp., NJ/Mountain Lakes) moved Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive) to third, but an error by the first baseman allowed Gutermuth to score for a 3-0 advantage.

In game two, the Bullets got on the board early with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Two sacrifices by Simmons and Pareso allowed Pabst to advance to third. Mastropaolo's RBI single knocked in Pabst for a 1-0 lead. Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) then drove in Mastropaolo with an RBI single to centerfield to make it 2-0.

Jess Jordan (Aurora, NY/Southern Cayuga) added one more in the fifth after Simmons brought her in on a fielder's choice.

Gettysburg held F&M scoreless until Krysta Shivick scored the Diplomats only run in the sixth.

Mastropaolo hit her eighth double of the season and advanced to third on Gale's bunt single. Pilarcik ripped her second RBI single to allow Mastropaolo reach home and tally the Bullets final run in the bottom of the sixth.

Gettysburg returns to action Thursday for a doubleheader against Lebanon Valley. Game one begins at 4 p.m.
