Mastropaolo, Simmons help Gettysburg past Lebanon Valley in non-conference doubleheader

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Stef Mastropaolo (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) and Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) each went 5-for-6 on the day as Gettysburg defeated Lebanon Valley 17-0 and 6-2 in non-conference softball action on Thursday.

Mastropaolo tallied five RBIs with three runs scored and one double while Simmons knocked in four RBIs and scored three runs to help the Bullets (19-5) win their ninth straight game.

Jackie Pareso (Washington, PA/Canevin Catholic) went 4-for-7 with four runs scored, three RBIs and one triple while Megan Pilarcik (Middletown, MD/Middletown) also went 4-for-7 with four RBIs and two runs scored on the night.

In game two, Gettysburg took an early 1-0 lead after Pareso advanced to second on an error, third on a passed ball and eventually tagging home plate on another error.

The Bullets added four more runs in the bottom of the third, starting with Pareso's triple to right field to knock in Jenna Pabst (Boonton, Twp., NJ/Mountain Lakes), before scoring herself on a passed ball.

Sara Gutermuth (Flanders, NJ/Mt. Olive) doubled to center field allowing Mastropaolo and Pilarcik to score and make it 5-0 after three full innings.

The next time up, Simmons scored Gettysburg's final run of game two on Mastropaolo's single to center field.

The Bullets held Lebanon Valley scoreless, until the top of the seventh inning when Abbey Gearhart lined out to first allowing Jessie Serafin cross the plate, before Kendra McQuillis's RBI single to center brought in Casey McCool for the Flying Dutchmen's only runs of the game.

Cjay Roughgarden(Stormville, NY/Carmel) allowed two hits and struck out three in four innings of work to improve to 5-1 on the mound while Pareso came in the top of the fifth to strike out two and walk three in three innings.

In the opener, Gettysburg scored three runs in the first, four in the second and 10 in the third to shut out Lebanon Valley 17-0 in five innings.

The Bullets closed the doors in the third inning thanks to 10 runs on 10 hits with 10 RBIs and one error.

Mastropaolo started the scoring when she ripped her ninth double of the season to center field to score Pareso and Pabst. Pilarcik's single to right field drove in Mastropaolo for a quick 3-0 lead.

Simmons, Mastropaolo and Pilarcik each hit RBI singles and Pabst stole home on the slide in the bottom of the second inning to extend the lead to 7-0.

Pabst went 3-for-4 and scored three runs while Katie Eiden (Silver Spring, MD/Georgetown Visitation [DC]) went 2-for-2 and scored two runs in game one.

Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) picked up her sixth win, only allowing one hit while striking out two before being relieved by Lauren Bourne (Ogunquit, ME/Wells) for the final two innings. Bourne pitched two-hitless innings and struck out one.

Gettysburg returns to action on Saturday for a doubleheader at Ursinus. Game one begins at 1 p.m.
