COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. - Shannon Kiry (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) fired a one-hit shutout and Stef Mastropaolo (Rutherford, NJ/Rutherford) hit her fourth home run of the season in game one as Gettysburg split with Ursinus 2-0 and 2-3 in Centennial Conference (CC) softball action on Saturday.
Kiry picked up her first collegiate shutout and seventh complete-game victory in game one while Mastropaolo tallied two hits, two RBIs, two runs scored, one double and a home run on the afternoon.
Molly Gale (Franklin, MI/Wylie E. Groves) went 3-for-6 with two RBIs, one double and one triple on the day while Michelle Oravis (Gilbertsville, PA/Boyertown) added a 2-for-3 performance in the nightcap.
In the top of the third inning with two outs and two strikes, Mastropaolo knocked the ball over the fence for the fourth time this season to score the eventual game-winning run in game one.
The Bullets (20-6, 10-2) picked up one more run in the fifth when Adrienne Simmons (Douglassville, PA/Daniel Boone) hit a double and later scored on Gale's two-out double to make it 2-0.
Gettysburg jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning in game two, but the Bears (14-7, 5-3 CC) fought back to score one run in the fourth and two in the fifth and hold on for the win.
Jenna Pabst (Boonton, Twp., NJ/Mountain Lakes) opened the nightcap by getting on first on an error, advancing on Simmon's sacrifice bunt and scoring on Mastropaolo's RBI double. Gale then ripped her first triple of the season to knock in Mastropaolo for a 2-0 advantage.
Both teams were held scoreless for the next three innings until Ursinus posted a run in the bottom of the fourth on Ellie Knise's two RBI single to score Gina Salvi in the fourth to make it 2-1 in favor of the Bullets.
The Bears used the bottom of the fifth to take the lead for good. Kristin Galie drew a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Denise Cook then singled, before Jamie Ruhling ripped a two RBI double to knock in Galie and Cook.
The Bears hurler Amanda Wilson allowed two runs, one walk and struck out two in the winning effort. Gettysburg starter Cjay Roughgarden(Stormville, NY/Carmel) struck out one and allowed one run on seven hits before being relieved by Lauren Bourne (Ogunquit, ME/Wells) with one-out in the fifth. Bourne faced seven batters and gave up only one run on one hit.
The Bullets return to action on Tuesday for a doubleheader against McDaniel. Game one begins at 4 p.m.
